U Chicago LLM Leak Personal Information!!!

That’s your own opinion.

I believe those adjectives are accurate and describe the felling many of us had. If this information goes to a recuiter for exemple...

Put yourself in our shoes.

I tend to differentiate between feeling and what I write to other people. It seems like a recruiter would have access to that information anyway, otherwise he wouldn't recruit you.

I’ll refrain from answering because you clearly have no idea what are you talking about. If the leaking does not affect you, I believe you should mind your own business instead of judging how people are expressing themselves!

Peace ✌

If you can't handle people judging the way you express yourself in, then you might reconsider pursuing a legal career all together. You're both snowflakes.

I didn't apply to Chicago, but if my name, grades and mail were given to around 150 people I certainly would not be happy at all, but not crying on a forum like a spoilt child. You seem to lack self-control.
I think people complaining about their personal information being leaked is absolutely understandable. When I got the email from the Dean(which was 3 days after the leak) I realized something went wrong and checked the file to see what information of mine was disclosed. I definitely didn’t want my grades or scores to be disclosed, and there were some people whose additional personal information was leaked with comments too. The school wouldn’t be able to undo what happened already, but I was baffled that it took so long for the school to take an action, and that a short single email was all that the school can do. It was really unprofessional and disappointing. I don’t think it’s appropriate to judge someone as spoilt or lack self control here at all.
I am not judging the fact he is angry. I would be angry as well. But I wouldn't start writing "INTOLERABLE" and "USELESS" with "???" and "!!!" all over the place. That seems to check in for lack of self control.
I also received the same email and was really upset about this leak. Whether you think this is normal or « not terrible » is based on your personal perspective. The fact that a law school is sending around my personal data is something that I am greatly concerned about and my wish for privacy should have been respected.
I am deeply disappointed with the university of Chicago.

Whoa! The administration at these top schools is really tired of their job this year huh?! I am still not over how Northwestern offered me admission only to tell me a few hours later that it was a clerical mistake and I’m waitlisted! Imagine my emotions!!!!

Jokes on you NW... I’m going to Berkeley!

I was also deeply disappointed with Chicago Law. I replied to the email and they are not responding yet.. I think (prospective) lawyers like people here should not take something like this understandable. This is leak of personal information and it is a serious problem. I still can't believe one of the best law schools in US made such a mistake.

Does anyone know if career information is included in that spreadsheet? Like employer, practice area, title (like legal assistant/associate/counsel) and etc.

According to their explanation the spreadsheet contains "names, contact and educational information, and information about admissions decisions". I am not so sure but I think it is likely that the sheet contains career information to some extent at least.

I requested a screenshot of the information leaked regarding myself. It contained pretty much all essential information, such as name, country, TOEFL score, grades, class rank, application decision, employer etc.

That's bad. It is quite unfair that UChicago admitted students have all information about us but we do not have the same information about them. The people who applied UChicago are pretty much the same group of people who applied other T14 law schools, and also the same group of people who will compete in NY job fair or for other job opportunities.

Did it say much about why certain applicants were admitted/rejected etc? That’s horrible.

This is exactly what I am worried about. We are the same group people competing for jobs and LLM offers in other law school.

There were like 4 tabs (deny, delay, admitted and hold) and a respective cross was made in the applicable tab but no comments on any reasons.

I also got the same email. I am wondering where they get my information from, because I did not apply in the end...

Really? U Chicago explained that they "mistakenly attached a spreadsheet with applicant information". If you have not applied in the end, it is really weird.

That is why laws like the GDPR from EU are so important. I feel ashamed by the so-called 'lawyers' in this thread that do not see the seriousness of this leak.

I didn't apply to Chicago, but if my name, grades and mail were given to around 150 people I certainly would not be happy at all, but not crying on a forum like a spoilt child. You seem to lack self-control.

Is that you, Richard?

The leak is certainly serious, and must be treated this way.

Imagine the information that you can "extract" after analyzing this spreadsheet.

The leak is so harmful to the school as much as it's harmful to the applicants.

I had access to the information leaked regarding myself, and I must say there is nothing there that I haven’t disclosure on my likedin page.

There is no comment regarding why I was not accepted or any other information that could possibly harm me.

I believe Richard is extremely sorry about everything...

Jesus, 297 recipients... I'm just feeling so sad that we are talking about data protection/privacy all day at law school, but when a law school infringe your privacy, you can do nothing and that law school did nothing

an excerpt from the mail I got back (finally):

The document was inadvertently attached to an email that went to 297 recipients. All were applicants to the LLM program for the Fall of 2019. The Dean of the Law School has written to all the people who received that information and asked them to both delete the message and attachments, and confirm that they have done so. Those confirmation messages are coming back to the Law School daily.
