U Chicago LLM Leak Personal Information!!!

I recently received an email from U Chicago that it inadvertently sent an email to admitted LLM applicants with an attachment including very detailed personal information of EVERY applicant. From my admitted friends, the attachment contains like contact info, GPA, TOEFL, etc. This is INTOLERABLE!!! U Chicago should do something instead of just saying apologies and requiring those admitted students to delete the attachment, which is obviously USELESS.

Well, what do you want them to do? "Something"? Although I agree it is a bad and hard to understand mistake, you are not going to die because 80 people you probably don't even know for 99% saw your GPA and TOEFL score. I also seriously doubt someone from these people would misuse your contact information for any malevolent end. I understand you might be angry as this information is private, but Frankly I fail to see the added value of your post.

Drama drama drama. A friend who was admitted told me there was no such info, just names, grades, mail, but no financial info and stuff like that.

I got the same e-mail. It is really irrelevant. Let´s say about 100 people receive some of your info. These people are from countries you probably never been into and probably do not care about you. Most likely, most of them deleted the e-mail. I really don´t care if they got such information. I mean, what are they going to do with it if they do not know who I am?

I didn't apply to Chicago, but if my name, grades and mail were given to around 150 people I certainly would not be happy at all, but not crying on a forum like a spoilt child. You seem to lack self-control.

I think people complaining about their personal information being leaked is absolutely understandable. When I got the email from the Dean(which was 3 days after the leak) I realized something went wrong and checked the file to see what information of mine was disclosed. I definitely didn’t want my grades or scores to be disclosed, and there were some people whose additional personal information was leaked with comments too. The school wouldn’t be able to undo what happened already, but I was baffled that it took so long for the school to take an action, and that a short single email was all that the school can do. It was really unprofessional and disappointing. I don’t think it’s appropriate to judge someone as spoilt or lack self control here at all.

I am not judging the fact he is angry. I would be angry as well. But I wouldn't start writing "INTOLERABLE" and "USELESS" with "???" and "!!!" all over the place. That seems to check in for lack of self control.

That’s your own opinion.

I believe those adjectives are accurate and describe the felling many of us had. If this information goes to a recuiter for exemple...

Put yourself in our shoes.

I tend to differentiate between feeling and what I write to other people. It seems like a recruiter would have access to that information anyway, otherwise he wouldn't recruit you.

I’ll refrain from answering because you clearly have no idea what are you talking about. If the leaking does not affect you, I believe you should mind your own business instead of judging how people are expressing themselves!

Peace ✌

Why do they know your information? I also didn't apply to Chicago, but does this mean there is a possibility that they might know my GPA, TOEFL score …etc? It's terrible. From where?

I also got the same email. I am wondering where they get my information from, because I did not apply in the end...

I got the same email.. I was furious too. I completely understand your feeling. In fact, I replied instantly and demanded some more explanation... How can they "accdently" attach such information? They did not replied yet.
