TTT + LLM

Hi all,

I went to a TTT, graduated in the top 10% and wound up working for a small litigation for the past few years (luckily not ID or PI). I have been thinking about going for an LLM in tax as I want to change career paths. My first question is how likely is it for someone from a lower ranked school to get into NYU's Tax program full-time? Second, even with going to NYU will employers ever look beyond my TTT law school?

Thanks.

From what I've read on here and and elsewhere, there are lots of people from TTT schools that go to NYU, GULC, or UF. Obviously the lower ranked your school the higher your class rank has to be. I assume that top ten percent at TTT makes you competitive, but that's just a guess.

As far as employers go, I have no real experience on the issue. But the consensus seems to be that where you got your JD is significantly more important than where you get your tax LLM. That being said, there appears to be many people that were in your position that did well at their LLM and got the type of job they wanted.

Best of luck.

It would depend on how you present your case in your personal statement. That should be the key and the "great equalizer" of your application.
