Tax LLM - USD or Loyola?

phisher

I'm hoping I can get some opinions and advice to help me decide between Loyola (LA)'s tax LLM and San Diego's tax LLM.

Which program has the better reputation and which degree would be most likely to open the most career doors?

I know everyone should go to NYU over any other program, but please try to focus on differentiating between USD and LLS.

Thanks,
Phisher

I think I read on LLS website that they make great effort helping their graduates finding a job... so maybe it's something wirth considering before you choose.

Thanks isradv.

I've also heard about the one-on-one attention given at LLS. But USD is a much older program so I imagine it has many more graduates (who may be involved in making hiring decisions).

Anyone have any other input?

I'm in the JD program at Cal Western in San Diego, and also looking into a Tax LLM. My Tax Prof here says that the USD Program is probably the best in So Cal. He's a visitor from Michigan, so I would think that if someone from Michigan has positive things to say about USD, that's pretty weighty in my book.

I'm giving a Hail Mary try from NYU, but USD is definitely on my list of places to apply. Hope that helps.

Loyola is a newer Tax LLM program so it is not as well known. However, it has moved up in the rankings in the last year while USD actually dropped and is now lower ranked. Loyola has some very highly regarded tax professors, who might be a better asset in helping you get a job than the career services departments at either school.

I'm in the Loyola tax LLM and I would suggest going to USD instead.

Can you please elaborate? Why were you unhappy with Loyola? Why do you think San Diego would have been better? I am choosing between the two as well.

thanks
