Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had any information on the student visas, particularily if you are coming from the UK. I had imagined the process of gaining one of these for the US would be a simple process. However, a friend of mine informed me that when her sister applied for a student visa a couple of years ago it was very hard work to get into the US. She had to take medical exams, an exam on America and have several interviews with the US Embassy in London. I think this may have had something to do with the proximity of timing to 9/11. However, I was wondering if anyone has experienced such difficulties recently?

Eh, this is my third student visa and I have never had any issues you like. As you I come from Western Europe and basically turned in my application, photos, passport and money, and got it back in a timely fashion. What takes some time is that you need documentation from your school, and you need proof of financial ability to pay for your school. But no interviews or questions on the U.S.
I did have to take a medical exam, but that was for my school, not immmigration.

There are definitely interviews for the US visa. This is a post-Sept 11th requirement. They are pretty straight-forward though. I didn't have any questions about US history - just about the course I was studying. It may depend on which country you come from though.
