Hello!

I am now working on application for a LLM program in the US. However, I have a question about recommendation letter and I have not found a answer on websites of the schools.

Here it is.

A friend of my family, who has a big name in the field of law worldwide, has known me personaly since I was a child. Also, he is the chief judge of a court, at which I have worked as an intern. But I did not work directly under his supervision and there was quite a number of hierachies between our positions.

I would like to ask him for a recommendation letter and he would probably let me draft it.

However, I do not know if the personal relatoinship shuold be mentioned. The personal acquaintance could demonstrate the recommender knew me really well. Bu I am concerned that the admission committee might doubt if the recommendation is candid and reliable because of the acquaintance is personal.

But if it is not mention, it would be kind of hard to support his recommendation for me with much detail and examples, as there was not much contact between us during the internship.

So, in a word, my question is:
whehter or not the personal acquaintance with me shoul be mentioned in his recommendation? Which way would make the recommendation more helpful?

I am not sure I have made myself clear enough.

Many thanks!!!!
