Sh

I heard there are some courses for LLM applicants from the countries other than USA, in order to make them prepared for the LLM program.
Does anyone have any information regarding this?
Thanks

Dear Shayan. In the first place congratulations about your scholarship. Fulbrighters have huge prestige in their LLM programs and in their professional carreers. In the second place I will try to give some tips, rather than answers -which I don`t have-, that can help you solve your questions. a) The majority of the universities have a certain flexibility that allows you to define the field of study in which you want to focus during the first class weeks. b) All the universities assist their students with professionalized experts, in order to help them "find their way" towards success and personal, academical and professional achievement. c) I believe the best to choices in order to developing the areas of your interest would be Columbia and NYU. Georgetown is also good. Nonetheless, nowadays Columbia is far beyond NYU and GT. My interests, are a bit similar to yours, and my first choice is Columbia, where I have been accepted in early admissions. I am interested in studying the relation between capital markets regulation and global democracy, using as a theoretical framework the works of David Held and Wallerstein. Now, respeting to the LLM, the problem is how to make compatible the theoretical interests with job opportunities. Until now, I think I will take some courses such as M&A, Capital Markets, and such, that would be useful to my development as a lawyer, but on the other hand, I would take courses such as Philosophy of Law, International Law, International Economic Law, etc. Maybe you could check out something like that. d) LLM`s only last 9 months. e) After that you should prepare and present the bar exam and try to work in a New York firm, in order to be able to pay the cost of your education rapidly and to increase your income. f) The average income of an LLM graduate in the US of a Top Law school is of 8900 US. g) About the courses, almost every university has courses before the regular course. Those courses last almost three weeks, and have a cost of 3000 US aprox. Anyway, if you do not take that course, in the first weeks of class you should have an intense course on American Law, so don`t worry about that.

I hope this information was useful. My msn is encisocamilo@hotmail.com in case you want to chat.
