I chose for GULC, although my focus is in public law. Indeed, firms and governmental bodies are located in DC.
Also, think about conferences (DC, NYC, etc)...
I really don't care about ranks. Look at the curriculum, courses, faculty, etc... in my field, very good BKL professors are now visiting some other schools so...
As for a well-paid job, market is awful now, so I believe it is pretty hard to antecipate these things.
I prefer to live in DC (a city, not a small town/campus etc).

one last thing. if your focus is law & technology etc (in a private context), maybe you should consider BKL... they have amazing centers there... (don't want to be biased...)

Thank you for the answer -
well I guess if I were focused in international law - GULC would be my choice without a doubt... but I'm more into corporate law ...

Go to Berkeley, 3 obvious reasons: 1) better ranked (#7 versus # 14), 2) harder to get into (Berkeley has one of the lowest acceptance rates in the U.S. whereas GULC's LLM is fairly easy to get into, 3) Berkeley has a Business Law concentration and 4) you can't beat the Bay Area, simply fascinating!

yet another example of how damaging the rankings are and how blind people get with them. What will you do if the rankings change dramatically tomorrow when the new rankings are released by US news? yes, literally. I think you cannot go wrong with either of them, but they are pretty different. Try to see which is the one with the best reputation in your country, because this year is going to be though for getting a Job and chances are you might have to go back. Second consideration, the one that gives you more money or involves the least financial burden (you did not mention it but an issue for most). And finally, as others have said, which city atracts you the most. Suerte Iguana!

i liked your after words text - because experience matters !
and it really does!

ok - so I really think that Berkeley maybe the right place for me. The reasons are the same that were discussed above (rating, good reputation, world wide known, and good education after all)
My concern is that California and especially Berkeley could be too liberal for me. And don't forget that Berkeley is a public University - and as far as I know it's not a plus in countries like US - because they are more into private schools with good reputation. And that's where I think GULC could be good.
BUT it isn't known world wide, if I go there I would totally change my profile from private to international law - and it's ok with me to change it if the place is worthy. I was told that Washington gives lots of opportunities if one can handle them. Plus I'm in love with NY and it's really close to DC. (Honestly DC sounds to me pretty boring but again I can handle it if the real statistic there says that postgraduates get good jobs)

GULC is not only about international law. They are pretty strong in Tax Law, international arbitration, and probably the strongest one in international trade law. They have the benefit of being in DC. I understand Berkley is stronger in IP and tends to be more "academic" in the sense of preparing law school professors.

One thing you may want to explore further with friends and colleagues is the fact that many professors in GULC are practinioners (i.e. not tenured professors). This probably hits them hard in the rankings. But not only it has the benefits of learning from somebody who is on top of what really matters in the street, but I would also imagine this may help in networking and getting to be known by people with some influence in hiring, but I would lie if i told you that I know for sure whwther or not it helps.

My suggestion is based on the brand of Berkeley worldwide rather than on rankings. I personally prefer Georgetown, but I have personal reasons for doing so. I lived in Georgetown for over a year, I have friends and former colleagues there, and foremost I was working as a junior diplomat, so the international setting is a top interest of mine. That being said, if you're a lawyer, especially if you're not a domestic applicant, Berkeley is one of the very few schools whose name can be compared for fame to Harvard or Yale. That's the reason that underlies my suggestion. Best, M
