Offer of admission + tuition waiver without having received application file

Chang

This is the strange thing that happened to me. I got in touch once with an Admission Officer of a top ten LS and just gave him quickly my profile, not my resume. I did not send my application file to this LS (at that moment). I received an offer of admission + a tuition waiver. In order to accept it, I should have to do it immediately and withdraw any other application. Why such an offer? And what can I do?

I decided to contact the other LS (which already received my applications), to see if they could help me. Was it a clever idea? None could accelerate the admission process (of course). But a top 3 LS sent me a very long, personalized email stating that my chances of being offered admission to their LL.M Program were good, even though they could not give any assurances about final decision. It was also written they were opposed to such methods and urged me to reject such offers. Nice. Is it a good point for sure? Could it be bluffing?

I thought about it deeply and decided to reject the offer. Was it the good decision? As you can see, many questions remain unsolved. Ill only get some responses in March/April 2007. Did some of you have such weird experience? If so, what did you learn from it?

hmm... in 1 word: strange - as you called it...

But come on Chang do tell which school we are talking about here - only then we could say whether yr decision to reject the offer was wise or not...

Hi Chang, If you don't mind I want to know which school has done that as I am applying to all top ten schools and want to avoid this situation!

Thank you

Hi, I am also wondering why you think it might be UPenn. Has this happened before?

Hi everybody,

To the numerous people who sent me a PM, Im sorry not to give you the name of the LS who made this offer. I hope you understand its a delicate situation for me, and that past experience on this website showed that even LS check www.llm-guide.com What I can tell you is that, from what I know, some LS, ranked between the top 10 and the top 5, sometimes offer financial aid at a higher level than those of the top 4. Its quite logical. Its a market after all. And I can tell you its a very tough decision to make (even if in my case, I was not officially admitted anywhere).

To make things clear, the offer implied that the top ten ranked LS would actually receive my application form, of course. Sorry if it looked like I didnt need to send it

See ya and good luck to yall!
