NYU TO DO LIST

Lucinda

Hi everyone !! I just thought a post on "the things to do" before entering NYU would be great for each of us...Im part of those who are a bit lost as to what we have to do step by step...Just what I tought would be a sum up of this to do list:
1. intention to enroll + $500 deposit (thats easy)
2. wait for the ID number from NYU to access their website(?)
3. register for classes (???)
4. Deal with the immigration stuff (???)

Im quite lost and I guess some of you have done most part of it already or maybe some did it last year ..anything you would recommend ...? Thanks for the help !!!

When do we get the ID number to access the website? I just submitted my intent to enroll yesterday.

Is anyone trying to find a studio off campus? Do you know where to look? Thanks!!

Its too early to look for the studio from now.
According to my research, you should start only a few weeks before your arrival in NYC, I know sounds weird, but thats how the market is in NY -once again according to my research ...so nothing 100% certain.

dear speedyco, lucinda is right. i have looked for an apartment in nyc in 2005 and its pretty easy. the search can be done online there are tons of websites if you want to do it online before you arive. i had found my apt which was a sublet for 6 months on craigslist. i suggest u check it out it will atleast give u a vauge idea of the costs. pls however remeber that u would most likely have to pay for cable and gas so add about a 100-200 bucks to the price. also if u are staying a bit far there is the monthly metro pass which should be around another 80 bucks. hope that helps

Lucinda and speedyco, this is how you access your NetID:

Go to the page https://start2.nyu.edu/ibin/getnetid1.cgi

Type the requested data (only use your admission number i.e. 888... where it asks for your university ID, as you don't have the latter yet) and it'll take you to another page where you can activate your NetID.

If you only submitted your intention to enroll in the last day or so then it may not allow you to create a NetID yet.

Thanks for your help. I finally got my Net ID. As for the housing, I think I may stick to the NYU dorms. What are you doing Lucinda?

I would recommend going to the NYU dorms - it is convenient and will save you time and the hassle of having to find an appartment.

Hi all!

Can anyone suggest as to how one can register for the classes? Is it through the albert link?
Though I have applied for on-campus housing, I wouldn't mind searching for off-campus housing as well. Which is the better option? And what about meal plans? Is the NYu meal plan good enough, specially for veggies, or there are better outside alternatives?

Hi,

I think that we have to wait for the email with the instructions before we can resgister for the courses, and anyway I am not sure that the list is complete yet (hopefully it isn't...).

I am also going to apply for the on-campus housing and ask for an apartment in mercer since the rooms are bigger. I think that the on-campus housing is better (though not necessarily cheaper).

meal plans - I think that you should decide when you get to NY , you can register after the begging of the year.
