NYU or Gtown admission chances

W&L2008

I am currently a second year student at Washington and Lee. I'm thinking about getting a tax llm in 2008 from nyu or Gtown. I was hoping someone might have some insight on my chances of getting in. I am currently in the top 20% of my class and anticipate I'll be somewhere inbetween 15% and 25% after finals.

Well for starters, you wouldn't apply until 3rd year November or later (GT up until March). Given your current stats you will get into GT (I would be extremely surprised if you didn't). NYU is little more selective and in your case it could come down to your performance in tax classes. Tough call right now for NYU but my bet is you would be in.

I would think you have a very strong shot. If you are top 15% when you apply, I would think that you would get into both. If you were top 25%, I still think you have a chance, particularly at GT. You're at a pretty good school, so your rank can be a bit lower then if you were at a T4 (if you had those same numbers from a T4, I would say your chances were slim).

Well, I was admitted to this 2 Universities, and it was a really hard decision. I suggest you apply for both and wait for the decision.

If you get to find yourself in my position I just wish you the best, both are great Universities. I've chosen NYU but do what is best for you. Good luck with everything! Keep up the good work.
