NYU LL.M U.S./Domestic Educated Applicants

NYC07

Hello All,

This Post is for Lawyers applying to the LL.M. at NYU who are U.S. educated attorneys.
I have read a lot of news on this site from international applicants to the LL.M. at NYU. Are there any U.S. Lawyers out there who have applied to the program? If so, have you heard any news about admittance? What are the chances of admittance for a U.S., J.D. applicant? When are decisions expected? What is the value of the degree post LL.M.?

I have applied to the general studies concentration. I look forward to hearing from all of you!!!

I'm a U.S. educated applicant to NYU's LL.M. program and I haven't heard anything either. I applied in September and my application was complete in October, but that's the last I heard from NYU. Based on the NYU web site, the decisions could come as late as June 2007, but based on posts from last year it looks like decisions may come out in mid-April. However, some domestic applicants have already been admitted. I can't figure out their application review process.

I've too have been interested in the chances of admittance, but haven't been able to find this information out (I've asked NYU and I think I posted a similar question on this Board, but to no avail).

I guess I'll continue to wait and hope for a letter of acceptance. Good luck with your application!

Thanks for the info. I was reading somthing on the NYU law web that stated that 425 students are admitted to the LL.M. program in NYC, and of that number 125 are U.S. Educated students.

I have lots of questions (I'll only unload two for the moment!):
1) I initially applied to the LL.M. in labor and employment speciality and was later told that this specialization was being suspended for this year. I then converted my application to a general studies application. Does anyone know why the program was suspended?
2) It seems that some of the other postings speak to the heavy weight placed upon GPA in the application process, but it was my understanding that GPA was not a determinative factor for U.S. educated applicants (particularly if they had been working or had gone to a top tier law school for their first law degree). Do you know how great a factor this is?

I think the numbers you cited are correct (300 foreign-educate and 125 domestic-educated), but that doesn't really tell us the chances of admission for domestic applicants. It would be helpful to know the number of domestic applicants (I realize this doesn't give us the chance of admissions either, but it does give a little better information). No one seems to have this data.

I don't know anything about the labor and employment program or the general studies program.

I haven't heard anything about the weight of GPA, but I suspect it is fairly important (actually, class rank is probably what's important because schools' GPAs vary pretty substantially). NYU (and the other top schools) hold out their programs as attended by those with strong academic histories.

FYI - another domestic applicant was accepted in mid-February. S/he went to a top 25 school with a GPA in the top 1/3 - 1/4, and no work experience.
