LORS whether newly issued or a year old will do.

I intend to study LLM in tax and I am going to apply to UC hastings, Univ of San Deigo, Univ of Florida and Goerogetown Law Centre( GULC).

My query is whether it will be fine if one LOR issued to me by my college professor a year ago in 2009 can be submitted alongwith my applications to the above universities or it would be wise to again request my college prof. to issue a fresh LOR for submitting my application for Fall 2011. I have already written this query to the admission faculties of the above colleges, but they may take time in replying and I do not want to derail in submitting my applications.

KIndly advice if any one has an idea on the topic.

I had the same question. The answer depends I imagine on how busy/understanding your prof. is. Why don't you send an updated lor to the school you'd like to go to most? Also, GULC is tougher to get into than the other schools you're applying to and it could help your chances. Take care!

Thanks for replying. Did you read my another query which I posted as General LLM or LLM in tax. I have been writing to the same universities and in their reply they have said that, generally LLM in tax is meant for and is preferred by JD in tax or top tax attorneys. I am tad certain and adamant on my decision of doing LLM in tax but given the fact that I did not study tax as an academic subject during my law graduation is becoming a cause of worry for me. I am a practicing advocate in indirect tax laws in the Bombay High Court. Thats how on the basis of work exp. I am now deciding to do LLM in tax.

Do you have any info on the said topic as to what are the chances of a foreign attorney to get admitted into a good univ for LLM in tax who do not have a strong tax academic background.

Hi, I really don't know enough about tax LLMs to fully answer your question. It would seem that with work experience in the field, you should be okay. If, however, it is a formal requirement to have a JD in tax or be a top tax attorney, then perhaps the top schools won't take you. Working with the Bombay High Court is impressive and I'm sure you'll be admitted somewhere. Just sell it in your personal statement. Good luck.
