LLM choice

simonsays

i am from india with 2 years work exp. and decent acad record. looking to do a general corporate law LLM next year. any suggestions of a college that is most generous as i am not able to fund my studies and most reluctant to take a loan. anything in the top 20 or so that is most likely to assure full funding?

Hi,

I don't know much about the ranking in other states, but in NY, the ranking for corporate law will be somewhat like
Columbia, NYU, Fordham, Cardozo (General LLM with a concentration in securities law). NYU does give full funding including stay etc. to a few but very highly dedicated and exceptional students. (But they are really exceptional students, and the scholarship, tough to get). Other sources can be found on individual school's websites. Cardozo does give some scholarships that range anything upto 5000 to 10000 but I have read about cases where they award 25000 (not sure if that was for JD or LLM though). But otherwise, I think, you should THOROUGHLY SCAN THE SCHOOLS' WEBSITES WELL IN ADVANCE SO THAT YOU CAN APPLY FOR ALL THE SCHOLARSHIPS BEFORE DEADLINES. Even if you start now for next fall, it might be late for some scholarships.

Hope this helps and best luck.

Hi, I don't know about IELTS. As far as I know US universities accept only TOEFL, but many don't neet TOEFL if your LL.B. has been in English. But most of this relevant information can be found at lsac.org and the individual school websites.
