Hi,
Can any one tell me after a foreign Law graduate clears his bar examination from Newyork or California, can he take a transfer his enrollment from Newyork state to Texas.
What is the cost involved in taking the bar examination?.
Roughly what is time taken for studing for an average student to clear the bar exam.

I live in TX and i'm a foreigbn trained lawyer and i'm starting the LLM program in the fall.
I have enquired about foreign trained lawyers taking the TX bar, the requirement is the individual must have practiced law for 7 yrs in the country in which he/she is certified.

I'm sorry now i see that i didn't answer your question properly, about transfering after taking the NY or CA bar to TX i honestly don't know about that but i doubt it.
I do know though, that with the NY bar you can handle fed law cases only in TX and not State law cases as you have not writtten the TX bar.

I would get in touch with SMU's financial aid office. They should be able to help you.

Hey, after university in the uk, i plan on applying to do my LLM in a Californian university. Would I a law graduate be considered a foreign lawyer eligable to sit the californian bar? Or would i have to have obtained my BVC or LPC?? I would be extremely grateful for any info on this. thankyou : )

I know SMU has a general LLM program, but how are these general programs? Are they worth it for people who have JD's from American law schools?

I would like to caution all propsective applicants from India that ,studing for LL.M costs lots of money nearly $45,000, this might be a shocker to many Indian students, who literally peanuts for doing their LL.B in Comparison.
Even after doing the LL.M,getting a job in the U.S. is very very difficult.
I think many Lawschools in the United States are simply running these LL.M Programs only to make that "extra" buck for the Lawschool.
As Law students in the American Universities, you do not get any specialized attention.
The bottom line is if you are planning to do LL.M with an expectation to find that "cushy" job, you are chasing a mirage.
If your pop has lot of money to burn then just do it !!!!
