LL.B from UOL (International Prog) - Qualify for bar exams in which state(s) ?

Hi all,

As per the topic, anyone has any input? How about NY or California? But I've seen that NY does not recognise external law degrees..?

Thanks in advance!

Well... the situation is quite dismal in general... An external programme LLB is essentially worthless in most every state of the US, something UoL should make very clear (instead they tell you to contact each state). Some states have been considering allowing LLB holders to sit the bar exam, but many have not made any changes. Furthermore, a state like NY, would require that the foreign LLB be earned in-class... not a distance program. One tiny possibility is to get an institution to write a letter saying that your LLB is good enough to take the bar exam in Rhode Island. If you pass that... then you can apply to other states. Of course... no law school in the US is going to write that letter without you first shelling out for one of their programs (e.g. Suffolk University in Boston has an LLM program for foreign law students). Yes, I am a US citizen with a LLB, Upper 2nd class honors and have basically been treated like roadkill by any employer in Boston and the region. If you can afford to do the LLB for fun, great, but expecting actual work in the US is utterly unrealistic.
