Hello to the outstanding people of this LLM guide blog.
I have a query..
Do you really think that US top law schools except HLS,YLS,Stan... rest are worth to spend 70,000- 80,000 $ ( max. exp.) for a LLM when we really dont have jobs, are going to take some loan ( lets say 50% to be lucky one)....
How will we pay the loan? yes.. have a chance to go back to our country and earn for years...
On the other side in UK, we have a good option to study for LLM ( lets say not in Oxbridge, LSE ) but in UCL, KCL,QMUL... at 30,000-40,000$
Here i am not a person to have funds to bring from my firm and havn't got a scholarship... and even dont have a chance to defer the seat for next year in USA...
Someone in previous blog have suggested to pursue a MBA from UK as it will cost less, after LLM... I think it is a sound idea for sometime as we can do LLM with MBA with the amount we spend for LLM from USA....
I need your personal openion for the LLM from USA ( not YLS,HLS,Stan) .... Do you think LLM from UK is also a great option for the job prospects because at the end we are taking a degree, not the work ex. to our home.. and US LLM is as good as of LLM from UK due to the financial factors..
It is
Is that worth..?

Very bizarre reasoning in my opinion. You lose one year of income, which is (hopefully) A LOT. :)

Hi, could you please specify why you don't have a chance to get a deferral? Do you think that you inquiry will be rejected by the university? Or are there any other reasons? This is not a banal question for me as I'm interested in deferral myself.
Regarding your question on the comparison of UK and US LLM, of course it depends on so many factors as specialization, country in which you want to practice the law, company in which you want to work (especially in relation to ILFs), personal preferences, etc. But generally there we'll be no difference for an average foreign lawyer to get his LLM from the UK university or from the US university. So, I suggest you to make a research on this matter in consideration of your home country, experience, dreams.
For me joint degree (LLM/MBA) is a not very wise way to spend your time and money. It seems as one haven't decided what he wants from life - to be a lawyer or to be a manager/economist/researcher. If you're focused on a legal career you do not have to concentrate on anything else but law. If not you're welcome to get a new profession. Only small part of applicants to the joint programmes actually do know their goals and the necessity of the joint degree for them.

Come on...stop pigeon-holing people. An MBA brings quite useful skills which can be very helpful to lawyers. It will also help people to adapt should the market conditions change (know what I mean?)...flexibility and diversity have a great advantage. The LLM/MBA sounds like a great idea to me!

Hi, could you please specify why you don't have a chance to get a deferral?
Yes, as i dont have chance to apply or study from next year for LLM.( personal reason ), so dont want a deferral.
Object ( LLM ):- i intend to get some work experience after my LLM from US/UK, i think everyone want to get back with some work ex. to his/her country
Object (2):
Yes, i want to join some international law firm in the country where i'll pursue LLM, not hopeful with LLM from US even from NYU,CLS....
Why i think MBA:-
Its will give you a good insight for you to understand financial and managerial aspects of MNC,ILF , may be you can seek a position after LLM in Tax as a consultant
So the question is-
What would be a wise investment-
LLM- US.... no job in USA, even no work ex.... will cost you 70,000-75,000$ from NYU,CLS
LLM-UK ... MBA... I think about a great job for sure, in your country for ......in total... 70,000$ .... yes time is an investment.. will take two yrs.
So how will you judge, which option would be better for your point of view?

Unless you got admitted to your dream institution, rather than defer, I wonder whether it might make more sense to just reject and apply again next year. That way, you're in the wonderful position of being able to apply for your dream institution again next year (even if you didn't get in this time round), and also apply for more funding opportunities from different schools. The worst case is that you're going to get into the same school again since in all likelihood if your CV is impressive enough to give you admission this year, there is a very big chance you're going to get admitted again the next. So the loss is actually limited to the re-application fee.

Yes, as i dont have chance to apply or study from next year for LLM.( personal reason ), so dont want a deferral to wait for the best three to reply next year. Well, time is also precious subject to how much you invest and what will you get.I am not sure to be in my dream HLS,YLS,Stan.. so this is the time to decide...
