Thank you so much, one more guestion, if you dont mind - what school did you mention, finish ... was it worth it (I am from a civil law country, so in my case is it worth it if I have the right to stay and work in the US...) What do you think ?

Hi kusiakm,
my suggestion is, since you are going to spend a lot of money, to try to be admitted only to top schools such as Columbia, Harvard, Stanford or Yale. It might not be easy to get in but once you are in they open many doors in the US.
As to Fordham is to way back in the rankings and is not known worldwide.

Hi Kusiamkm
irrespective of your first law degree, study in USA will not guarantee you a right to work and stay there;
when you decide to come to USA on F-1 visa, you should be prepared to leave the country after expiry one year from the completion of your proposed study;
the LL.M programs in USA are mostly for foreign lawyers in order to provide them education about american legal system whcih knowledge can be better used by them in their home country; the one year OPT is also mainly to familiarise the candidates about working structure in USA and not as an excuse to work and stay in USA.
therefore, LL.M candidates should prepare themselves for ONLY two years stay in USA - one year for LL.M and another one year for work (OPT).

Hm, thank you very much for the info.
How about a person who has graduated in Europe (civil system of law) has won a green card and would like to stay in the US, any suggestions (??)...

well, there are three possibilities for a green card holder in USA :
(A) JOINING a law firm or law practice - need a licence to practice which is possible after Bar exam - with or without LL.M;
(b) joining a law school to pursue academics/teaching work;
(c) working in legal depp of a company where bar licence may not be required.
The costs for US residents are considerably reduced in the sense that even though tuition may be same for LL.M, they may get a heavy reduction if joins JD after LL.M in a public school.

when you visit the LL.M webpages of different law schools, you will find that some of the schools offer scholarship on need / merit basis and do not even require a separate application; others may require you to make an application; normally, the scholarship is a partial tuition fee waiver; in exceptional cases and in very few cases full scholarship is available for a very very limited candidates depending upon several factors;
the only method to find out is visiting web sites of schools you are targetting..
