Hi all,
To all HLS admitted students: do you know that there is a forum for admitted students on HLS graduate program's website that is accessible with your login and password that were sent with the admission package? I didn't, and just logged on today, to find out that... no one posts there! I invite you all to post there if you want to chat about what next year will be like (particularly given the fact that a lot of questions will arise soon... housing, courses, etc.).

I have not received my HLS package so I don not have the password yet. However, as soon as I am able to log in I will join the conversation on the HLS board.

snobs! aren't we good enough for you guys anymore? you haven't even started to go to school there and the "school spirit" is already rubbing off.

That's mean!
Of course not... but I guess discussions on where to live in cambridge or on HLS courses might not be of interest for all! sorry about that...

matreshka,
In terms of conversation, there is not much going on on the official website's forum (hence my post here...!). So we can of course continue discussing here.

Thanks! just making sure... ;-)
You never know, some people can be touchy... (I read some of the posts where people continuously tried to call liars those who kindly said when they had received admission emails...). ;-)

Ricklo,
All of the people on the discussion board here are just great. You should read the long history of the douch_bag posts to be able to understand why everybody was upset with him.
Anyway, maverick, we will be happy to discuss all of the issues with you. Where would you advise me to live in Cambridge? :)))

Ricko and Matreshka: Nice to know you first here even through all the letters you post. I am sure you guys are so brilliant, the same as many of others in all these forums in which we have been tortoured waiting for each admission decision day after day for four months. Looking on the bright side, It's fabulous that we have been sharing our news and invaluble opinion and information simultaenously.
Maverick: To be frankly, I am so jealous of you being admitted to both Yale and Stanford. In my point of view, both schools are more competitive and selective than HLS in terms of admission. The bottom of my dollar says you must be so cool to get into both. Then, what's your choice?
I have a suggestion on the admitted student webboard of HLS and also other schools. You have to make it more colorful by initiating any topic. And other fellow students will come joining you. I did it once in the admitted student webboard of Penn and have got very good feedbacks from the potential classmates. People there seem to be very nice, so It's sad I cant study two places in the same time and also have only limited budget just for doing only one llm.
For housing in Cambridge, I already decided to apply for a room in Gropius Complex just becase of its chepest rental. Hope I can get the USD-600sth-per-month room from HLS lottery process despite the fact that a friend of another admitted student from my country who is now doing her llm at HLS told us that the building is very old (about to be demolished real soon) and not clean. I dont know how her taste for housing is, though, thereby deciding to choose this on-campus housing. Plus, I dont mind sharing bathrooms and kitchen with others.

In my point of view, both schools are far more selective and competitive than HLS in terms of admission considering the tiny size of each program. The bottom of my dollars say that you must be so cool to get into both. So, what is your decision?

The story with the douch_bag: this guy wrote everybody on the forum in the beginning of February that he was admitted to HLS. The thing that was suspicious about his admission was that the statement that he was admitted irrespective of not having completed some parts of the HLS application and having provided homemade translation of his credentials. Afterwards, in a pretty snobbish manner he started teaching everybody how to be successful in life and, on the whole, was pretty rude and annoying. Only after about a month of this torture, when the guy completely disappeared, had it become clear that he was simply lying. All of the admission decisions were made only on March 25. Therefore, when the first truly admitted students decided to share their happiness, nobody really believed them.
Chris, I also had an idea to live in the Gropius Complex. However, after I read about the one restroom on the floor I am not so sure anymore. Do you have any idea how big are the chances to win the room of your first choice in the lottery. I am not too lucky in all of the games. I guess HLS is trying to make the people venturous right at the beginning of the studies.:)))

matreshka: I agree that sharing a bathroom with a whole floor is not a very nice perspective...
The chances, I guess, depend on your requests: I heard that in North Hall, a number of rooms are reserved for LL.Ms, and it should be pretty easy to get on there; however, they are also the most expensive. I think the more choices you list in your request, the more chances you have to get a room (the risk being that, if you don't, you'll have to look for off-campus housing which might end up being more expensive...).

Hi guys,
I went on that Harvard forum the first thing when I got my package and there wasn't anyone on it! I hope more people go on soon so that we can start talking. I am really confused as to whether I should attend HLS (and have to uproot myself from England) or just go to Oxford or Cambridge instead. And HLS only gives us until 6 May to decide - that is pretty soon!! :-(

Jjust wanted to say hi to my fellow admits!

Kazaf,
Are you sure that you want to be talking to HLS admitted students when making your decision. I think that we are all already patriots of the chosen school. I strongly doubt that you will be able to hear any negative thoughts about HLS. So far I can say, that I would be really happy to see you in HLS this fall. Anyway, good luck with your decision!!!
