Is there actually such a thing as a Harvard waiting list for LLM applicants ?
Thanks
HARVARD WAITING LIST?

Thanks

Yes but they don't tell you you are on it. A girl in my year thought she hadn't got in and the class list had already gone out and she found out in June (by which time she had accepted a full scholarship to Michigan) that she was in.

Hi thanks flygirl
Ok am I right to presume that I am on it --- since I contacted them and they told me they haven't made a decision --- keeping in mind how I have read on this blog that many people have recieved rejections --- and again someone wrote that all decisions will be reached by the 22nd?

I would presume that although I would still make other plans.
I am from a very small country and they made 4 offers to people from there (yes, we all know each other!). 3 out of the 4 (75%) declined and within an hour they had emailed someone else.
So I guess it would depend on how represented your country is. Also, there was a particular scholarship that applied to people from our country and they had to give it to someone.

Thanks flygirl
I really don't know what to think --- I presume you were the one who accepted ?
I would be extremely interested to know what small country you come from ? I think I could then compare the size of my country and guess the offer proportion ratio for my own small country !
Thanks

There is a waiting list and they do tell you that you are on it. Check out the thread "waiting list" by harvarddream!

Thanks figaro,
However that person --- is a bit inconsistent --in one post they say they were rejected and on the same date they say they are on a waiting list

Equity's Darling/Flygirl, Im interested now, you say 3/4 rejected Harvard with a scholaraship? Im curious, as you all know each other, where did you end up going?
Posted Mar 31, 2007 05:17
I think they went to CLS.
Posted Mar 31, 2007 17:47
She said that, not me; and we don't know eachother, except for on this board. She's an aussie who went to CLS; I'm a canadian whose going to Cambridge. I don't know where the other 3 people who rejected harvard that she refers to ended up (well, I suppose it's only 2 people, because of the four 1 accpeted harvard, flygirl went cls, and two are unkown).
Figgie, where's they end up??

Hey, I was waitlisted and I received a notification in this regad saying that they expect to have a better idea by mid-May whether they can accomodate anyone from the waitlist. I read a previous llm blog and the idea was that it all depends on your country representation and if the people from your country don't take the HLS offerthen they call the waitlisted person from that country/ region. They stressed the waitlist is not ranked...so far I know of at least 5 people who are like me, I don't know them personally it's from this blog...I am very curious to learn whether anybody will actually be written off. The feedback I got is that chances are vvvvvvv small.

I was waitlisted at Harvard last year.
On April 10, 2006, I received a letter from Jeanne Tai (Assistant Dean for the Graduate Program and International Legal Studies) saying that:
"[]
Although the Committee, after careful consideration, is unable to offer you admission at this time, your name has been place on the waiting list. We expect to have a better idea by mi-May as to whether we will be able to accommodate any candidates from the waiting list. If a place in the class becomes available, we will let you know as soon as possible.
If you wish to discuss your status, please feel free to contact me by phone or by e-mail. If you choose to accept an offer from another school, please notify us so we can remove your name from the waiting list.
[].
So, there is a waiting list (an official one) and I know that the list is very short.
I told them to remove my name from the list (since I didnt want to wait two months) and I went to Columbia.
I was also admitted to NYU, Chicago, Penn, Virginia, Berkeley and was denied admission to Stanford (which was actually my first choice).
Hope it will help.

Hamish - I ended up going to Columbia and the other two to NYU. Interestingly, someone from my year didn't get into Harvard but got into Yale. He was the only one from my country who applied to Yale (so I suggest if you want to get into Yale you knock off everyone else from your country who is applying...heh heh) I think the the lure of NYC is just too big for many of us from downunder. Since our society is relatively egalitarian we'd rather have a good time in a great city with great bars in our year off work than worry about getting the prestige badge. Heh heh. Waiting for the objections...

It seems to me that Jess2006 (from Australia) was also admitted to HLS last year and turn down the offer.
Am I wrong?

I am not sure. I didn't apply last year.

have you gone back to 'flygirl', figgie??

Equity's Darling/Flygirl,
Thanks for the responses. Im Australian as well so I was curious as to what "the market" was doing. Id assumed from the beginning that I was competing against other Australians for the slots. I understand your decision as a good friend of mine also went to NYU and another to Columbia for their LLMs (both Australian girls) and both had a great time. I personally would have said on any criteria harvrad plus scholarship would, I think, have been impossible to turn down. Nothing would open more doors than Harvard. But thats my opinion and if you're looking for LLM life experience as well, NYC has obvious attractions. I would only add that the girls who went to NYU/Columbia would, Im sure, taken Harvard plus scholarship all day any day.
