Got rejected too :( Did your friend apply the year after? Thinking about whether it makes sense to apply again the next year.

Hi everyone! I just got the news that I was accepted!

I am very excited as Harvard was my dream school!

They state that they meet 100% of the demonstrated need. Do they cap their grant options? how rare is full tuition?

Hi everone!

I hear that LLM in the US (even if you pass the NY bar) is relatively useless and no one is hiring foreign-trained LLMs over JDs.

Do you think this applies to harvard LLMs? Personally, I believe this will open doors for anyone! US-trained or otherwise.

It really depends on one's ability to get a job, even if you are a foreigner holding an LLM . Can't see why Harvard law is any different, they are only ranked fourth behind Yale, Stanford and UChicago in the US. The top 3 rankings have been consistent for the past two years. Plus, Harvard has way too many LLM students (over 200) compared to the Top 3 schools which have only 70 graduates.

Hi, as someone who already did an LLM in the US (but not in the top-14 school) I would say that for most LLM is not smth people are imagining it to be (i.e. it is NOT a good idea to do an LLM thinking it would allow you to stay in the US long-term).

However, it works for some people. From my class of about 150, maybe 3-4 people stayed in the US. For Harvard, this number would likely be more, but it would not be 100% or even 50%. If you look at the profiles of Harvard graduates most are not staying in the US - they are returning to their home countries, moving to Europe, London, etc. I know people who did an LLM in Harvard and even for them it can be difficult sometimes to get a job outside of their home jurisdiction. Harvard helps, but it does not guarantee anything.

if you want to stay in the US, you should do a JD, period. If you are unsure about it, at least pick a school which allows to transfer to JD after your LLM (e.g. UChicago does that).

Do people not use the one year that they are allowed following the end of the program to find a job? I thought that the student visa gives you an additional year to work in the US in your field of study and was hoping of using that as a next step.

You are only allowed to stay for 90 days without a job offer. Then, if you did get a job, you need to start H1B process in March. Apart from your company agreeing to sponsor you, you will need to win a lottery (not everyone who is being sponsored is getting a visa).

Moreover, not everyone has the Bar exam results in March the year after graduation which means you might have to persuade your employer to sponsor you, even though you are not qualified yet. That makes it more difficult to stay long term.

Yeah.

A friend got in on her second trial.

Got rejected too :( Did your friend apply the year after? Thinking about whether it makes sense to apply again the next year.
