Hello. An M&A lawyer from Germany here. Hope everything went smoothly with your application. I am currently having an issue with viewing my LLM application preview file. Can you access it form the application system?  I didn't save the copy of my application prior to submission and now it is technically impossible to view it.

Hey! It was my understanding that in order to view it later the applicant must save the "preview file". Unfortunately, I think you cannot access it now...

Hello! It’s super kind of you to offer your help here! I’m sure questions will start rolling in as we draw closer to March when decisions are released.

In your opinion, what do you think are the common characteristics of students that get accepted vs the ones that don’t ?

How kind of you, thanks! Please, how comprehensive is the financial aid at HLS? It is stated in the Financial Aid application that they don’t offer full funding but I just want to have an idea of how much funding is given per student, in the average.

Also, are research assistant roles available for LL.M students?

Hello! This is a challenging question! I don't think there is a recipe that one should follow to get accepted. There are people of all "shapes and sizes" here. Some have just graduated from law school, others have been practicing for more than 10 years. There are judges, attorneys, government employees, prosecutors, consultants, etc. Many people have international backgrounder, e.g. international education/work experience but there are also people that have lived in one city throughout their whole life. Many are doing PhDs or have completed their PhDs. I think the common characteristic is that everyone is very passionate about their legal area of interest and is a "compelling character" outside of law school. On the first day of school, the graduate program made an opening speech about the different hobbies/extracurricular activities of the new students. I think that HLS is searching for the "full package"- i.e. people who are not only good lawyers but also have interesting personalities.

Yes, the research positions are available to LLM students in most cases. As for financial aid, HLS analyses your whole financial situation and then provides you with a package (scholarship + loan). Usually, the proposed package tops up your personal funds to the total amount of the tuition and the estimated living expenses. As for the scholarship-loan ratio, it is difficult to say. It could be 1-1, 1-2, etc. I guess the relevant question is how much debt you'd like to take in order to study at HLS. My advice is to seek alternative funding options (including loans with lower interest). However, keep in mind that any received outside scholarship should be declared and will most probably reduce the financial aid offered by HLS. Happy to discuss this further!

Sorry to intrude... Mexican JD student here trying to be where you are now in some time...

I can't find anywhere, precise information about how much work experience Harvard Law requires to apply to their LLM, can someone clarify it for me please?

Thank you so much and the best of lucks in your applications!

Hey guys! I wonder if anyone is in the same situation: on my application checklist, my TOEFL and transcripts are still appearing as not received, although my LSAC report was checked as received. I'm a bit worried about that since it's already late Jan. Am I supposed to write to the admissions team although it is explicitly stated on the website telling us NOT to?

Hi there, I have a question about the chances of getting accepted. Recently, I defended my doctoral thesis in public law after 12 years of straight studies since I was a first-year LLB student. Despite not being a top student in attended programs (except for PhD) I hadn't had a chance to improve my resume from the point of view of professional and practical experience (which is highly important for HLS admission). But the research section of my resume is quiet considerable (over 20 published articles and a book). Although, I have teaching and research experience with private colleges. Do you see a slight bit of hope for me & HLS?!
Many thanks

None of us here sits on the admission committee. I guess you just have to be hopeful of the best.

I had the same situation but a few days ago the remaining items were checked. Just give them some time. They will contact you if something is missing.

Do you believe that it is possible to receive an offer if I did not met the English requirement for the Writing component? I obtained a 105 overall, with all components over 25 except for writing in which I scored 23. While I will take the TOEFL again, I am not sure if the results will be available before mid-March.

Hi- Can we connect 1:1, I have applied to Harvard LLM for IP law program and would like to understand Harvard culture compare to other T14 schools. Also, interested to know how IP program is at Harvard?

Am a current HLS student -  briefly practiced IP but am not taking any IP courses at HLS (so please take my comment with a grain of salt) - can't speak for other schools but HLS presently does not have the best IP faculty - would suggest you looking somewhere else if you wanted to focus on IP - one that comes to mind would be UCB - though the reputation of HLS could not be understated (if that means anything to you)
