Harvard Admission Decisions

Hey everyone,

Does anybody know, from previous experience or from searching past threads better than I did, when does Harvard begin to issue its admission decisions?, when can we expect to receive notice of our acceptance or rejection at HLS?

I ask because I recently received notice of acceptance to another Law School and was given until mid-March to confirm with them if I'll be attending their LLM. The only thing which might stop me from confirming is being accepted to Harvard (maybe... it might also depend, for instance, on the financial assistance Harvard offers or doesn't offer, as I received a partial tuition waiver along with the acceptance at this other Law School, and if I get external financial assistance, which might give precedence to one School over the other, I don't know).

So, maybe, my question here is: can I expect to hear from Harvard before, say, March 10?

While at it, I also ask: and if I don't hear from Harvard until March? Is there anything I can do to assess with them, before they issue their decisions, if I can expect being accepted, so that I can decide whether to confirm or not with the other Law School?

Many thanks!
And good luck to us 2010 applicants!

Normally, it's around mid-march too. As far as I remember, it is written on Harvard's website that you can email them if you have a deadline from another law school.

I think that you should simply wait untill late February: by then, HLS should have informed the applicants about the day of the admission decisions. Then, if necessary, you can send them an email.

Hmm. So Harvard will inform us about the expected date for their issuing of admission decisions?

Thank you, dabk, for your answer and advice!

From what I have heard, they will. But check on their website, I am pretty sure that they deal with that issue of deadlines.

From Harvard's Application Instructions:
"Most admission decisions for LL.M. applicants will be made by late March.
If you are facing a deadline for acceptance from another school, you may contact the Graduate Program office and we will do our best to give you an indication of your status where available. Once the decisions have been reached, you will be notified promptly and will be able to log in to a password-protected site to check whether you have been admitted, denied, or placed on a waiting list. Applicants on the waiting list may not know the final result of their applications until June or later. To protect the confidentiality of applications, we do not release any information on an application decision to anyone other than the applicant."

Also, I searched this board for previous instances of this question and I found this thread:

Hope it helps others who are also waiting.

I just want to add that if funding from Harvard would be decisive, you may have to wait until May when financial aid decisions are usually sent out. HLS may inform you of its admission decision before mid-march, but they can't tell you a hoot about finances before May.

Unilu - How many recommendations did you submit and in what form ? Did you send the transcript by post / courier ?

Online recos even if submited don't seem to be updated in the tracker yet.I despatched my transcript on the 24th and my transcript status reads as 'Received'.

Your transcript head of 'No current status' may simply mean that they hav'nt processed your file yet.

Dont worry. This is a general problem, and something HLS needs to do something about.

I, too, submitted my application back in late October and my status still reads "received." I called in November to ask a question about recommendations and was told no status change would be made for those submitted online because you can check the recommendations link and see which ones were submitted.

Any way to gauge how many American JDs are admitted to the program? I only applied to Harvard, emphasizing my interest in law school teaching. Very nervous for March to come.

Thats an interesting point. I never considered how many HLS / American JDs would be part of the LLM class. For that matter is the LLM class common to both?

My understanding is that well over 40% of the class are usually international students.

In the 2010 Class, out of more than 160 LLM students, there is only 01 (one) American student. The LLM is entirely focused on international students.

If Harvard's LLM admissions were strictly for international students, then they wouldn't have separate criteria for American JDs indicating what they are seeking from such applicants. I don't believe that 159 of 160 students are international, but I also don't believe that the percentage of American LLM candidates is as high as 40%. Anyone with ACTUAL knowledge?
