Georgetown / NYU (Tax) Questions

I know there are many threads about GU v. NY, but some of them are outdated.

I'm in at all 3 (UF, GU, NYU), but I am only seriously considering GU and NYU. I know NYU is the best by far and has amazing placement, but would it make more sense to go to Georgetown if my ultimate goal is to do government work?

If I had the chance to do firm/Big 4 (more Big 4), I would obviously take it, but I see myself doing government in the long run.

I HATE New York which is another reason I am leaning towards Georgetown.

Is the disparity between the two program so great that I should deal with going to school in NY for one year to ultimately look for a job in DC afterwards (even if I get the LLM at NYU, I have no plans of staying there short or long-term).

I know NYU is more national, but in the region I am, there are a lot of Georgetown Tax LLMs, so I am not too worried about the portability of the degree.

Lastly, I know that a lot of people on the forums rate these programs based on "big law" placement, but that is not my ultimate goal, so please keep that in mind when commenting.

Thank you for your help!

Hey. I'm in the process of making this decision as well. Did you make a decision yet?

I was offered a Graduate Tax Scholars scholarship at Georgetown, but I have not heard anything about a potential scholarship at NYU yet. I'm different from you in that I would likely choose NYU all else being equal, but tuition cost is definitely a factor in my decision making.

Have you decided whether you are going to accept the Graduate Tax Scholarship? I accepted the Graduate Tax Scholarship.

I'm still in the process of deciding. I have to decide by Tuesday though.

I just wish I had applied to NYU before the priority scholarship deadline, so that I would would have a better chance at some type of scholarship offer. I guess it's sitll possible, because they said they make scholarship offers through May, but since I missed the priority deadline I think I'm near the back of the line.

I have spoken with multiple alumni of each program as part of my decision making process, and I have a few more to talk with in the next couple of days. I'm still up in the air though.
