Foreign Attorney

Hey all,

I obtained a bachelor in Dutch law and an LLM degree in International Business law in the Netherlands and I've been looking into the admittance of California bar exam.
It appears the term 'foreign attorney' (attorneys who are admitted to the active practice of law in a foreign country in good standing) is crucial in determing whether you have direct acces to the California bar. If you're not a foreign attorney then you qualify as a foreign educated applicant and are required to pursue additional education in the US before being eligible to the bar exam.

My question is, who exactly qualifies as a foreign attorney? Is having obtained an LLM enough? I don't think so but my girlfriend thinks otherwise so I hope someone can clear this up for me :)

Hello,

Well, attorney basically means admitted to the bar - so no, the LLM is insufficient for this path.
However, the LLM might provide a different way to the bar exam...
