Hi,
Does anyone know about the LLM program at Fletcher's School of Law and Diplomacy? I believe its a brilliant course for someone interested in getting into international law or policy work. Also, what sort of people are they looking for for their course and how selective are they about their requirements?

Hi,
Applicants are selected on the basis of law school and undergraduate grades, legal and other professional experience, exam scores, TOEFL scores (where applicable), recommendations, and a writing sample. Fluency in English is required.
Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy has a very good reputation.

Pharrell,
Thanks for the link and the information. However, considering the specialised nature of the LLMs offered in Fletchers, I was wondering if merely having reasonable criteria for a regular LLM course is sufficient. Does someone have to display a reasonable amount of experience in international law or policy to have a chance of getting in? Also, I've been looking at their admission procedure, which is one of the most complicated I've seen for an LLM. I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about their courses, how they're considered and their own impressions about Fletchers itself.

Is anyone applying to the Fletcher School to do the LLM in 2008? Looks like a pretty impressive course - although I understand it will be a small class of around 30 students.
I am planning on working in the field of public international law so this LLM looks perfect.
Im from the UK and would be interested to know if/when any one applying receives an admissions decision.

hi chris,
I'm applying to fletcher and i am also going to choose the track of public int'l law.
But I don't think they will be giving out decisions until jan1, 2008 for early review applicants. [If u want early notification then u must apply by nov. 15]
Good luck!
P.S. - I'm also concerned about the experience , i mean i have experience in my field but not in policy making or any thing like that. so does any body know if they r really strict about only accepting applicants with that background?

Thanks for that psag.
Yes, I have applied for early notification - I am working at the moment so some advance notice and time to make the decision of where to go would be welcome!
The course is new but judging from their website, they will have fairly strict admissions standards if it is going to be such a small class - fingers crossed!
If its PIL you are interested in, you applied anywhere else? I have applied to LSE and Cambridge also.

Have a good christmas and new year when it arrives!

I received the letter in the post - it was dated 14 December so had obviously taken a while to get here. My online account still says nothing.

Hi all, Fletcher's program was swamped by applications, so don't be surprised if it takes longer to hear back than you were expecting! Good luck to all.

I just want to know if there are others out there admitted to Fletcher. I am a lawyer with a background in political science and an interest in International Affairs. I applied for their MALD program and just got Admitted, any other Fletcherite out there?

May I know why they called it non- law school, while it is offering an LLM program?!
it's called school of law and diplomacy! how come it is not a law school?!
what is the differnece if it is non law school or a law school?

In the United States, law schools--those offering J.D. degrees-- are accredited (or not) by the American Bar Association. Fletcher does not offer a J.D. and is not a member of the ABA. It is one of the premier schools of international affairs, and offers a LLM in international law for students who have already obtained a JD or equivalent. It has a superb law faculty, and has been teaching international law since 1933. The only practical difference is that graduates cannot use the Fletcher LLM to apply for bar membership to any of the U.S. states as it is not an ABA- accredited law school.
