Employment after BU Tax LLM?

Hello,

I'm thinking about accepting the offer to attend BU's tax LLM program for this fall, and I was wondering if anyone knew about the recruiting opportunities there. I know the program isn't as strong as the ones at NYU or Georgetown, but is it still worth doing? Does anybody know what firms / companies recruit there on a regular basis besides the ones on the BU law school web page? Also, does anybody know the average starting salary for the class of 2007 and the percentage that got hired? Thanks a lot!

bu tax llm is a very respected program, and i believe the employment opportunities are very bright. more than the companies, it is the school that u will be interacting with at the first level, bec they will get you info on all the companies, and i believe bu's career office is extremely helpful. u are right, nyu n georgetown do hav a good reputation in tax llm, but if u do some extensive research, you will find tht bu tax llm is rated in the top 5 in the country, nyu being 1st n GT being 2nd or 3rd. by the way, harvard is rated 7th or 8th.

Do you go to BU Liza because I have heard information that conflicts heavily with what you are saying. Basically what I have heard is that aside from the job fair in DC held in conjunction with UF and NW, students have to do the majority of their own job searching. Additionally I have heard that while the BU tax LLM is respected and recognized as a good program, students have a more difficult time finding employment outside of the Boston area.

The general consensus on the BU program seems to be that from an academic and development stand point the program is strong, but from an employment perspective things are weaker. It is overshadowed very heavily by the Big 3 schools and NW additionally, and like I said outside of Boston it doesnt garner nearly as much respect as those school.

Liza was also incorrect with her quotes about the rankings. BU is ranked #6 among graduate tax programs in the latest rankings and harvard is not even included in these rankings. Among JD tax law programs BU is 8 and harvard is 5. Like I said above the educational experience will still be valuable but once you get outside of the top 3 schools (NYU, UF, and GT) rankings dont really help your employment prospects outside of the school's local market.
