No, it's not about the rankings; and yes, there are many intangibles that must be taken into account. I've made both points dozens of times in different contexts on this board.
However, to make discussions meaningful, general propositions should wherever possible be followed by justifications and/elaborations, at least where the points made are not self-evident. If it were otherwise, this forum would be devoid of any analytical rigiour, and would quickly become little more than whimsical gossip. That would be of little assistance to anyone.
That's why I asked R for elaboration on his/her bald statement that Duke has a better reputation than some of the Ivies.

> @ pablo,wedge
> Hey, have u received ur I-20 yet?
No. I can hardly imagine that any 2007/08 Duke attendant has already received the I-20. They have two offices working on visa stuff subsequently, each of them needing two weeks (that's what they write).
I've done my whole part. The I-20 is expected to arrive after 11 April 2007.
BTW: No words from my side on rankings. I've made my statement above and don't give a .... where everyone goes as long as I'll meet some nice and qualified people at Duke this year. I'm optimistic about that. So long.

Hi everybody,
Duke law sent me an email today advising that my application is still under consideration. Besides, they also asked me to inform them whether I have accepted an offer from another law school or whether I remain interested in Duke Law.
What do your guys think this email really mean? Is this email equal to a waiting list ?

I am quite surprise that this forum does not speak at all about Duke, and I actually believe that is one of the best Law Schools where to take an LL.M. program.
Sure, I'll speak for Duke. I've had occasion to speak to some Duke alumni in top firms, and I'd say that alumni network is underrated.

@ Lyhoward,
This email is equal to a waiting list. U shud mail them back stating that u really want to attend duke and u are waiting for them to make a decision asap though u've been offered seats elsewhere..

I decided to pick up Duke's offer. I will start the documentation process at beginning of the next week. Hope to see you in August.

The dilema I have is that, on the one hand, I don't want to dignify R's poorly expressed and confused diatriabes with a response; yet, on the other, s/he keeps naming me directly in his/her ad hominom attacks, which moves me to defend myself.
In any event, I think you would be well served, R, to read your posts and mine together, that way you can juxtapose confussed childishness with concise argument. This, to be sure, will help you in your future studies; for one can only imagine the grades you'll get if you read and write at Duke the way you do here on this forum.

Jeez.. I must say u have a lottttaaaa time on ur hands.... u shud go get urself a life instead of tryin to pick an argument with some random person over the internet.
again.. ur deviating frmm the entire topic and u've made this board post a stupid personal battle.. I wud request u to keep in mind that this is a public forum which aims to help law students.. now I don't really know if u are one but.. I must say.. get on with it..
p.s. I rather get poor grades at law school than have the time to sit and fight with a random person over the net.

1) I didn't pick a fight, I asked politely for an elaboration on a very specious point raised by R which concered the comparative worth of LLm programmes. This is directly related to this board's mandate and is useful to LLm students, current and prospective. R decided to respond with comments like 'get over it' etc...
2)There is nothing 'random' about R. He made a point, I sked for elaboration, and he made disparaging comments.
3)You appear to have a lot of time on your hands, too...

I'm tired of reading posts about this useless discussion. I want to study where I'm going to feel happy. I'm writing in this thread because I intend to study at Duke and want to learn more about the program and my prospective classmates. I want to study at Duke, because I want to share the campus life and warm climate with my wife. I'm eager to attend the classes of high profile professors (Cox, Gulati, etc.). Congratulations to everyone who have been admitted to Ivy League schools. But I think we must discuss Duke here.

Good idea zoey!
I will move to Duke approximately the first week of August, and, as Semih, I will also move to Duke with my wife.

hey all,
I would request all the prospective students to join a yahoo group..
It would be much easier to communicate and get to know each other..
