Anyone has already decided to go to Duke next academic year?

I have just accepted their offer and it would be nice to meet other people that is in the same situation as me.

I will be going to Duke this August.. Is anyone attending their summer program?

I'm in, too. The formal stuff is done for the biggest part, I'm currently checking the housing opportunities.

I will not attend the summer programs, however they look very interesting.

Where do you plan to go Wedge? I am currently also checking the different housing opportunities.

I won't attend any summer programs either, I have a job contract here in Germany until late July.

I haven't made any housing decision yet. But there's some likelihood for a ap. complex named "Belmont". A friend of mine is currently staying there and can help me in making arrangements. About US$ 750 + utilities + internet, unfurnished, 10 min. to campus.

Graduate on-campus housing isn't that good and about US$ 750, I've been told.

Anyone got some advice on that???

I have also been told by a friend that Belmont is pretty good. I do not still know what I will do, there are so many housing opportunities.

Why have you accepted Duke offer? I am quite surprise that this forum does not speak at all about Duke, and I actually believe that is one of the best Law Schools where to take an LL.M. program.

You are absolutely right.

The program is not too big and not too small (< 80 students), excellent course offerings, environment not too urban, good feedback from friends of mine (alumni), lower living costs than at BU (just look my old posting here).

AND there's one more pro. You've already mentioned it: "... this forum does not speak at all about Duke". I've come to the conclusion that this fact is a very good sign because this forum is full of detached ranking junkies. (Sorry guys, no hard feelings, but I can't stand all that "HLS vs. NYU" or similar b******t anymore. Don't believe the hype.) So my hope is to meet some rather down-to-earth LL.M. students at Duke.

I agree with you wedge, however Duke is ranked among the top law schools of the USA and has excellent faculty... any other opinions?

I'm in the same boat as u are.. will be shelling out 57 k.. any idea bout teaching/reseacrh assistantships offered at Duke?

The reason why I want to study at Duke is it's reputation..
Being international lawyers in America, reputation of the school is really important.
Duke lawyers are really respected be it in America or elsewhere. I didnt even bother applying to the "ivy leagues".. Will all due respect, I think a few so called ivy leagues are excessively hyped..
Also the weather in North Carolina is very similar to the place I stay at

Your post seems somewhat inconsistent. On the one hand, you're attracted to Duke because of its reputation; yet, on the other, you express a reluctance to apply to the Ivies on the basis that their reputations are 'hyped'.

Well, if it's reputation you want (irrespective of quality), then go to the Ivies; if it's quality you want, then that is another discussion alltogether.

Nobody denies that Duke has a good reputation. What I find peculiar is your assertion, implicit in your first post and now explicit in the one immediately above, that Duke has a better reputation than a lot of the Ivies.

1) I don't take issue with the purpose for which this thread was created, I simply highlited what I think is an inconsistency in your position;

2) am not 'vouching for the ivies', nor, for that matter, have i even applied to them;

3) I did not suggest that the purpose of this board was to 'bring out which schools...suck', I simply asked if you could justify, or, at a minimum, elaborate upon your very suspect staement about Duke having a better reputation than the Ivies;

4) And, in any event, it appears that you're not interested in discussing this on the merits, as is evidenced by your assertion that "I just want to place Duke at the highest level sinceim goin there...".

With regards to the prior discussion I really think that all 15 top US Law Schools are excellent, no matter which one you finally choose (so Congratulations to all admitted students)...In our particular case, we have to know that Duke LLM alumni have excellent reputation inside and outside the US, a NY top firm lawyer told me that his work experience with Duke international students had been outstanding...and that is a good reason for accepting Duke´s offer!

Again, I don't disagree for a second; Duke's reputation is excellent, hands down.
My only querry was on what basis does R believe that Duke's reputation is better than the Ivies?
And which Ivies in particular does he refer to?

It is not all about the rankings..........don´t lose your own desires and perspectives........... wherever you will go, you will have a great time if you want to.... Pablo, go ahead!! Duke is waiting for you.........
