Hi, all
I also got admitted to Duke and accepted the offer in Dec
as Duke is my priority choice. Congrats to all and those who are waiting, I wish to see you in the campus.
By the way, is anyone granted scholarship from the school?
I am curious about fundings.. I realized that it's quite expensive to study in Duke comparing to other schools. Hmm

Dear All:
I am currently a LLM student at Duke. I want to congratulate those of you that got the acceptance letter. Duke is an amazing place for taking your LLM. The professors are exceptional and the faculty is spectacular.
For those who are still waiting, I wish you good luck.

thanks rafadavi,
i applied for an llm in environmental and business law. i am working for the green party at the german bundestag as a clerk since 4 years and will pass the first state examination in law (JD) with magna cum laude till mid february. IELTS 8.0. no LSAC. i studied at the university of potsdam, duke's partner university - that's all.
i first got an application receipt on monday via email and another email on wednesday in which they told me that i was admitted. today i received the official admission letter via email and a hard copy will follow shortly.
i think my green background was the key for there surely are guys out there with better marks. i also worked very hard on my personal statement - it took me weeks and i think its the best paper i've ever written.
hope i could help you...

To those still waiting for Duke offers, there is a lot of time to go yet so don't worry. I sent my application on December 12th and got an offer on December 27th (very quick!)

Anyway, they said that they've offered some people "early admission", such as me. If someone declines their offer, that frees up another space in the class and hence someone else might get an offer. This rolling basis can apparently continue for some time so keep waiting!

I received rejection notice by e-mail today.
They sent me the e-mail using BCC, so I assume that some other applicants received the same e-mail.

For your information, I submitted my application early November.

Congrats to adimtted applicants and good luck to waiting applicants !!!

I received a mail from Duke saying that "Thank you very much for your fine application to the 2008-2009 LL.M.
program at Duke Law School. At this time, we are unable to let you know whether there will be a place for you in next year's LL.M. program."
What does that mean? :)

Hi, Penny.

The e-mail you received is apparently different from the rejection e-mail I received.

They said to me, "I regret that we are not able to offer you admission for the 2008-2009 academic year".

I assume your e-mail indicates you are wait-listed.

Is it a custom that the schools don't tell you straightly that you are on the wait-list? I am wondering why they just inform me that I am wait-listed.

Hi Penny,

I received the same email yesterday. I guess we are just deferred by Duke, not waitlisted. Here's something my friend recommended to read (http://lawschoolexpert.blogspot.com/2007/12/deferral-to-regular-admission.html ):-

"law schools like to defer and waitlist and "hold" applicants because they are judged by rankings partially according to acceptance rates. By giving out fewer "admit" letters, they can control their acceptance rates. They want you to work a little harder. Law Schools want to be able to judge the likelihood with which you'll actually attend their school before they hand out the precious law school acceptance letter.

So, if you're deferred to regular admission at a school you'd really like to attend then fight for it. Demonstrate your continued interest in that school. Keep them in the loop with updates, especially new grades coming out this month. (Just don't annoy anyone in the admissions office by calling too often or saying too much)."

Good luck to all "deferred" Duke applicants just like you and myself!

Did anyone actually get an admission email, or is it just "deferral" or rejection email?

They sent out a certain number of offers.
The deadline to accept by is February 8th. So after that date, anybody still waiting to hear should get a definite answer...
