rankings are for JD students, not for LLM...
BUT, in many universities, LLM students attend the same courses and classes than JD students, so thos rankings apply to them too in term of quality etc. ;)

Generally speaking, I say general name recognition is more important for your career than specialty rankings in any particular field. For example, Stanford is ranked no. 8 in USNEWS in environmental law, but I cannot recommend anyone to turn down Stanford for any of the other schools ranked nos. 1-7.
Where the decision becomes difficult I think is when you have schools of relatively similar overall rank and name recognition, but their specialty rankings are far apart. For instance, should you go to NYU (no. 6 overall but unranked in environmental) over Berkeley (no. 9 overall and ranked no. 4 in environmental)? This decision will likely require closer scrutiny.
