I have been accepted in CLS without any tuition waiver, and I have just been accepted in NYU with an Arthur Vanderbilt scholarship (full waiver) and an offer for research associate position. What would you chose if you were in my position?
CLS's reputation is an important factor to me. And money is not the greatest concern. I guess that the decision depends on the value of the scholarship's reputation and in the research associate position.
thanks

Keyser, do you mind telling us where you are from?
The rest of us are really anxoius to get decisions
Was it by e-mail or mail?
I think columbia has a better reputation internationally than NYU. So, except where am admitted for tax at NYU, I would go to CLS
Please reply to my questions..thanks in advance

depends on what you want to study. But with that kind of fellowship and associateship, I'd take NYU over CLS anytime.

I'm from France.
Yes reputation is quite an important factor. though the vanderbilt scholarship is also good distinction, and research associate...

by post mail, no email received.
the offer of vanderbilt should be accepted as soon as possible, and the deadline for final decision is 1st of may.

Hi keyser_soze,
I also received my admission letter today from NYU. I was offered a Dean's Graduate Award and a research assistant position! I chose for the International Legal Studies specialization, what's your field of interest?
D'ailleurs je viens de la Belgique :) (I'm from Belgium)
Greetings,
El Duderino

I have not specified any field of interest, but I would chose courses of the fundamental curriculum as well as other in corporate law and taxation I guess.
I applied in november.

Any one from Africa who has recieved his admission letter?

Hey, reiterating what I have written in a parallel thread, I've just been admitted to NYU on the same conditions as El Duderino. Given that I have a 15 K tuition fee waiver from CLS, the financial conditions are comparable, so I'm inclined towards CLS. I am interested in international legal studies.

Keyser,
i would choose NYU with full tuition waiver and research associate position for the following 2 reasons.
- is U.S.News ranking an important factor for the applicants from your country? NYU has just the same rank as CLS.
- you have already got glory enough by the fact that you accepted by both CLS and NYU.

thx for all of you... I'm in France now, but I might be interested to work in China for sometime, and there I guess reputation is important.
but i'm very interested by the research associate position. and I could have my resume on the NYU website as a vanderbilt scholar... also important factor (not only for tuition waiver)
really don't know.
my credentials won't tell much since in Fr the syst is special. let's say am in top 3, 5% with other activities (memberships in legal association, legal prizes (freshfields best business law student), and good internships (s&c, gide,)).

in China, both CLS and NYU have good reputation.

(Cross-posted)
Congrats to all admitted!
I'm wondering, to login to the admitted students area, is your ID number the same as the one you received when you sent in your application? Did the letter come via UPS?
(I'm holding out hope that I'm admitted, but haven't received a letter yet)

Congrats to all admitted!
And congrats to K.S... Honestly, I think a full scholarship + research assistantship will boost your resume... and the economic advantages of saving 40K and having a steady source of income in NYC are not neglegible...
I think it is a matter of a) your specialization (is CLS much better than NYU in your field of study?); b) whether CLS is your dream school (e.g. I could understand that someone preferred HLS over a full-ride offered by another school, as the mystique of HLS is really powerful); c) you have strong ties with CLS.
If the answers to these 3 questions are no, this should not be a dilemma at all...

FYI: Having questioned some of the business lawyers in France (having done an LLM themselves, or recruiting LLM students in NY jobfairs), it appears that they do not make a distinction between LLM students from CLS and those from NYU at all. To them, CLS used to be better than NYU, but it's no longer the case today. So under the conditions offered to me by NYU, I should not hesitate.
