Cornell vs Georgetown

Michaeeel

Hi everyone,

I'm waiting for a lot of answers from other top 15 schools but I gotta think of my "landing place" for next year. I've been accepted to these 2. I'm trying to make up my mind :

Cornell : Ivy League (but it doen't seem decisive for the US job market), beautiful campus, small program (close relationship with students and professors but smaller alumni network).

Georgetown : located in Washington so internship prospection is easier (major law firms, SEC, etc.), huge alumni network in major law firms.

What do you think?

Hi!

If you want to engage in research and teaching, probably Cornell. Certainly one of the best "think tanks" in international academy! Besides the Law School, the economics department is also great.
I know very little about Georgetown, but I heard they have a good political science department, and the law school is pretty influenced by it. Don't know if this is credible information though... Anyway, Washington has some obvious comparative advantages over Ithaca... If you want to practice in a big firm or a selective governmental agency (like SEC), you probably should bet on Georgetown.

You should wait for other answers, shouldn't you? What if you're admitted to Harvard or Yale or Stanford? (I'm guessing you applied for these ones...).

I hope someone else can give you more detailed advice, I just don't know enough to give you a consistent answer.

Good luck!

In terms of career prospects, i would choose Georgetown over Cornell on account of its Location in near proximity to Washington DC; simply 'cause the likelihood of finding a job offer are greater there. In contrast, Ittaca is a small town and the student and faculty body is smaller making the networking opportunities scantier there; though Cornell is proud to harbor an outstanding and unrivalled faculty cohort. Besides, Georgetown Career Development is well-organized concerned with helping out students, which revs up the prospects of being recruited into posh Law Firms. Admittedly and regardless of this reason, running into a rewarding Job mostly depends on the objectives the student has set in his mind and his getting around to obtaining one.

But Cornell and other universities which are not located in major cities have a career office. Don't you think that it can eventually work as well as studying in a major city ?
