Hello All.
I have been admitted by both Columbia and NYU. It is really difficult for me to decide which one to accept. Any helpful thoughts?
Thanks!

Did you use the board search.?There have been discussions about this before, eg http://www.llm-guide.com/board/2377 (Columbia v NYU)...

What area of law do you want to concentrate in?

Thanks Arnauld, I've checked the board you mentioned and there's a lot of helpful info.
Frankie, I want to focus my LLM in Corporate Law. I will take some courses in International Law, but the main area will be corporate.
I heard that Columbia is more business-oriented than NYU (which could be a starting point for a decision). Have anybody heard the same? Are there any other differences that should be taken into consideration?
Thanks!

I think Columbia has the edge. The way I see it, for Corps, it's Jack Coffee vs. Roberta Romano. I think RR would be great and had I chosen NYU I would definitely doing her Corporate Finance subject but I think it's got to be JC Jr. for Corps.

Oh no now Im worried.
I also got accepted to both. But I choose NYU. I researched both options for months. The masters program in NYU has earned a reputation as one of the best in the world. If you want to work outside the US, NYU is very well recognised. But of course Colombia is also a great school. But your question concentrates solely on the issue of which university is superior when embarking on a masters program and my research has lead to NYU.

Hi!!!! I have the same problem!!!
I have been admitted to columbia and NYU and can`t decide.
I also want to focus on corporate and commercial law. I know that coffe and goshen are very good professors that teach at columbia but NYU has Allen that is very good too.
I think i will choose NYU...

I think Allen will not teach in the coming academic year. You can check the schedule of classes on the NYU website.

Hi Pau - this is really a hard decision, but I've already made my mind (I am not so 'Desperate' anymore). I am now convinced that Columbia is more appropriate to my profile. Also, I have talked with several people currently working in NY and they all consented that Columbia has a slight preference among the partners of big law firms.
Of course I would much prefer to live in the Village than to live nearby CLS. But this - although important - is secondary if compared to the academic and professional goals. And we must not forget that in both cases we would be living in Manhatan -- where we could easily move around during weekends and free time.
I hope I can meet you in CLS this Fall!

Okay, as a current NYU LLM, I have to chime in on this. NYU is the best in tax, and has a very good program. But for corporate, columbia probably is better. For International, its a tough call, both are excellent. In the end, they are both such great schools, that the choice is not that big of a deal.
