Columbia LLM - 2020-2021 Applicants

I've just received my admission decision. Applied through the regular cycle and one of my referees submitted his recommendation from a Gmail address. However, he explained why he was doing so and I also included an explanation in my application. Here is my timeline:

Applied: December 17
Application complete: January 13
Admission: January 30

Best luck to all!

Congratulations and thanks for the input! Has any of the deferred students heard back? I havent.

Hi All, I have recently received an email from Columbia stating that I need to provide my recommenders work email address. My recommender does not have a work email address? What do you guys think I should reply with? According to the email they "can not accept generic email addresses such as yahoo, gmail, aol, etc., as we have no way to verify their authenticity". Is there an explanation I can give? Can anyone please help. Thank You

Could please tell me if this email was sent before your status changed to "application complete"? I am asking because one of my recommenders used his gmail to submit the recommendation to LSAC. I would like to know whether they might raise this issue even after they considered the application as "complete". Thank you!

Hi. Yes, a prior email was sent confirming that my application is complete.

Yes, prior to the incomplete email my application was marked complete. However, after providing the school with my referees work email address, my online status has changed to complete. I hope that helps.

Didn’t you explain that in the space they had provided in your application? As in, they require every applicant to mention why their referee cannot provide an official email id. Did you skip that part? I’m curious to know because one of my referee’s too has not provided an official email id, however I explained the situation. I have not received an email from columbia yet. Want to know whether I didn’t get an email because I had explained sufficiently well?

Yeah, so I had simply stated that she does not have a work email address. I didn't think to elaborate on it, maybe I should have. Anyhow, my referee was kind enough to create a work email address on an urgent basis and my application has been marked complete.

That’s a relief, congratulations. So did they wait until your referee created a work email address to mark your application complete? Man that’s stressful. I’m sure they must’ve taken you for your word that your referee will provide an official email address and proceeded to mark it complete?

I saw on the app tracker that someone got a rejection decision today. I don't know how accurate the app tracker is, but if someone heard anything new from CLS, please share with us!

At first I thought that it was a very quiet week , however the I saw this as well. So it seems that there are two rejections registered on app tracker by now - i don't know how accurate this is, but I don't think that someone would put that by mistake..

The wait is so annoying. haha

I wouldn't read much into that cause the date mentioned is Feb 7. And Feb 7 is yet to begin in US.

Well maybe someone put the date that was in their country at the time of the rejection
