Hi. I was admitted to Columbia with a half tuition waiver...is it worth going knowing that I am not a teenager anymore ?
I really would like to study US law but I feel that my profile is slightly off the mark...
Basically my questions are am I too old for the LLM at CLS? Also do you think that with the current economy it is the right time to go back studying for one year?
Anybody with an opinion on this or in a similar situation?

Why do you feel off the mark? You're an experience lawyer which is what CLS wants its applicants to be. Surely age cannot be a concern at this point.
You're pretty lucky to get such a tuition waiver if you already have many years of practice. Go for it!
May I ask where you are from?

Hi. I am from France and that's what I wanted to hear. Thanks for your comment. I know that I am lucky but with the current climate decision-making is even tougher...Have you been admitted to a US LLM yourself?

Yes, I've been admitted to NYU so far and waiting to hear from CLS and HLS (little hope re the latter but I thought if I've bothered with the paperwork for LSAC and other schools, might as well give it a try).
I am also from France but have never practiced (despite passing the French bar exam yeeaars ago). I'm not particularly optimistic re the economy but was recently laid off so I might as well go.

Good luck my friend. Fingers crossed for CLS and HLS. But NYU is excellent and in the heart of New York! Would you prefer CLS / HLS to NYU? What is your field of specialization?
Sorry to hear about your employment situation but sometimes bad things can have positive effects.

hi koala!
i totally agree with Yme, CLS with half tuition waiver is awesome!! :)
i think most people who get in CLS have at least a few years experience. I applied too but haven't heard from them yet (was deferred at early review). I only have 1 year exp though, so my chances are quite low anyways, I guess.
Yme, may i ask you which LLM at NYU you got in? i applied to trade regulations, haven't heard anything either...

Hey koala,
I'm from the US and would not recommend coming here right now if you are looking to gain some US work experience. Wait at least a year.
Things are awful right now and everyone knows that it will take a long time before things get better. There are hundreds of unemployed JDs and hundreds of unemployed LLMs looking for a job now.
It does not matter what qualifications you have in this market. Firms are downsizing big time. I have heard that even people from Harvard can't find a job!
If I were you, I would definitely defer for at least a year. The US is in complete meltdown right now and I'm not sure if people in Europe know how bad things are deteriorating here and what lies in store for Europe in the upcoming months.

Hi all,
I was admitted to CLS over a month ago, but haven't received the financial aid decision yet. should I start worrying?
Koala, when did you receive the decision about tuition waiver?
Also, did anyone get news from HLS?
Thanx
