Chances at NYU or GULC tax

jimbo85

Currently a 3l at one of UCLA, VANDY, UT with a 3.25 gpa (median). Have a 3.9 undergrad GPA from U.C. Berkeley.

Did biglaw last summer and received an offer. However, the firm has since dissolved and finding a biglaw job in this economy appears unlikely (Retained my offer letter). Considering applying to GULC and NYU tax programs to improve my chances of getting another biglaw position.

Am I competitive for either?
Also, to anyone who has had a similar experience, would I be better off just waiting it out to see if hiring picks up in the fall rather than spending all that money on an LLM? I want to work in CA or NY.

Currently a 3L at Vandy. If you go there, PM me.

3.33 gpa, 3.97 undergrad from no name school. MBA in financial planning (inc. tax and estate planning).

B+ in estate tax, A- in fed tax.

In at UF, GULC, and waiting on NYU.

I think you are very competitive, assuming decent tax grades.

As for LLM v. trying again in fall... who knows? Ive read on taxtalent.com that even a fair number of NYU LLMs aren't getting jobs in this market. So... who knows what the right call is?

The fact that you go to a very good school will go a long way. Though when you say you have a Median gpa of 3.25 I do get a little suspicious.

I believe the admissions committees evaluate you based off of your average gpa, class rank, and law school rank.

If I were you I would go ahead and apply, you should be very competitive. That way you have a backup plan in place if you don't get a job between now and graduation.
