I'm a 3L who has a low GPA (2.5 ish) from a tier 1 law school. I want to do an LLM - either general, banking, estate planning, or tax related. (Ideally in the Northeast somewhere)
1) Will any school really consider me?
2) Is it even worth it to apply to NYU or BU?
3) Are there any other schools in New York or Boston that may accept me with my "terrible" academic record?
I need your help/thoughts... thanks!
Can I get in anywhere?

First of all, I don't know if your GPA is out of 4 or 5. I mean, I know it's better if you have 3 at least out of 4, however it's not an express requirement. (pls correct me if I am wrong)
I would recommend you to bring some arguments about having such a low GPA in your personal statement, -of course if you have reasonable excuses.
By the way, NYU has already closed the applications for fall 2007..
Good luck!

Sorry for the confusion -- GPA = 2.5ish on a 4.0 scale. Thanks for the advice on the personal statement.
Admission date: I graduate (J.D.) in Fall 2007, so I wouldn't mind starting anywhere either Spring 2008 or Fall 2008.
Any other advice on what else I can do to improve my chances?

Publish something (book reviews, an article), get an internship, do some pro bono work, get some teaching experience, try to form an relationship with the Dean of your law school - those are good things to begin with.

I agree with tmalmine. Besides, extracurricular academic activities - such as group of research and summer courses - would help your GPA.
Cheers!
Cheers!
