Anyone on UPenn WL out there?

When I met upenn career counselor (she is very attractive and smart person herself) couple of months ago during my one of visits to philly to find out about the program and other possible options. She sounded very enthusiastic initially but when i asked about possible opportunities for LLMs and school's initiatives towards these international lawyers, she didn't sound that much keen and started advising that school resources are geared towards JDs mostly and LLMs can take advantage of but she is not aware of any LLMs getting much placement and could not even suggest any name in last couple of years, when asked. Finally, like others even she advised if you wish to practice law in US then you should opt for JD and school's program can take you to good firms. So, in my view in this downsized economy LLM from a NYC school is better option even though upenn may have somewhat better ranking if job is the main criteria because philly bar has no admission rules for LLMs and eventually one goes to NYC to find a job and when you're in NYC, firms always look for either top five schools and NYU locally.

Thanks imjohn,

Placements are next to impossible in the US and the law schools can't assure you of a job. It becomes more imperative in these circumstances for your Law School (esp if it is not in NYC) to provide you with the resources / information / know-how that shall atleast give you a chance to compete in the job market, as opposed to "orphaning" you once you step out of class.

may09,
sorry for the delay.
the rejection letter was pretty standard (they could not admit m after careful consideration, wished best of luch, etc etc). No real info there...
And yes, I sent an extra letter showing my interest and giving very important updates, and had a JD Alumni send an additional rec letter.

Well, I got mine yesterday too. Dissapointed the way things turned out to be after all this wait.
Will be going to GULC now.

and I am sure you will do great mav09!

I think the chances on WL are pretty small. I've seen just a couple being admitted after probably around 50 WL...

I was placed in the Waitlist around march, and finally got a acceptance letter on may 7th.
I pretty much badgered the Graduate programs office every since day by phone and regularly sent e-mails explaining what can I bring to the school and what I plan to do with the knowledge acquired. I leaned heavily to my interest on teaching in the future.
Hope that can help!
