frosty

Have you guys heard from UPenn? Since rejections/acceptances were due April 1st, and the email they sent me said they would be pulling poeple off the WL during April, I was wodnering if anyone has heard from them. This waiting is killing me.

I am looking forward to their decision. Let's hope for the best and keep waiting.
After going through several threads from previous years, they generally offer admissions from the wait list by April end or early may.

See as far as I know from whatever information I have gathered from various sources that they usually send offers to more people than the number of seats available at their program which means they anticipate that about 15 to 20% of the people will decline their offer and choose a different school and accordingly they release more number of acceptances. Now if in case there is a shortfall amongst these candidates from the extended pool of accepted students, they generally fall back to their wait list.
Officially they do not declare how they select students from the wait list but unofficially it has been said that to maintain diversity they would firstly look at the geographical/regional/country specific representation and in case of one's shortfall, the university shall attempt to fulfill the same with another candidate who comes from such region/country.
Keeping this in mind the hypothesis that one can formulate is that if two Germans have declined their offer, they will attempt to fill the vacant seat by admitting another German.
If in case, no other German is available, they will look to a random candidate or other suitable candidate that promotes the diverse mix of experience and fulfills their need of regional diversity.
Usually in the posts from the last 3 to 4 years on LLM guide, I have seen that they have selected very few candidates from the wait list and no more than 4 or 5 candidates.
Bonzo, it so appears both of are in some way directly competing for a place at UPenn considering the fact that both of us are Indians and if a seat somehow becomes available we'll be fighting for it.
Best of luck

@frosty
it's too early for them to release any decisions and maybe we can expect to hear around the 20th.
Has anyone send additional material to UPenn in support of their application after being declared wait listed?

@mav, thats what they're saying, third week of the month. But something should come your way, you've shown lot of patience so far. Have you accepted your other offers or not? How're you managing their acceptance deadlines?

@lexnex, I have paid my first tuition deposit to Georgetown and gave up UCLA. I am eagerly awaiting UPenn's reply. I hope I get it before May, since I would need to pay another deposit there by 1st of May.
What abt you?
Where are you from?
Have you sent additional material?

@frosty
What did the letter say? Do you mind pasting its contents on the board for the benefit of other applicants.
Also which country are you from and when did you get wait listed.
I am getting really nervous.

Just to help you guys out, the second deposit of US$2k must be done by May 1.

Maybe a student waiting for other decisions paid the initial deposit ($500), but will think twice in paying the second one (and maybe it was accepted in other school in this period).

Hey Congrats!!

I'm still on the waitlist, but have been admitted at Northwestern (Gen LLM) and G-Town(Gen LLM). Really, confused if Penn admits me, to decide between Penn LLM (gen) and NU (gen) for a corporate law focussed LLM.

Please advise, as I would want a law school which takes special interest in its LLM students and also works hard at their job placements. I have heard good things about NU in this regard, but really dunt know about Penn.

Information in this regard, would be appreciated.
