I've been admitted by American University and will be attending the International Legal Studies Program this fall. I'm from Chile.

Hi! I am also admitted by ILSP in WCL. I'm from China. Did you receive I-20?

Hi Ruoshui,
I'm currently in the US (NYC). I have a green card so I don't need I-20.
Which program in particular are you interested in? I'm interested in the International Business Program. How old are you?

I'm a lawyer in China, and my responsibility is oversea investment and international trading. So I will choose the International Business program too. What's your vocation? Why did you decide to pursue the LLM in WCL?

I just finished law school in Chile last year and then immigrated to the US. Although I'm currently working in immigration law in New York, my main interest has always been international commercial law. I plan to practice law in the US after completing the LLM so I hope the program will be a jumping off point and give greater experience and understanding in that field. I learned about the rogram through a lawyer I worked with in Chile -he got his LLM at American and highly recommended the program.
How did you learn about the program?

I learned about this program from US News and World Report. Its specialty rank is good. Since you are in USA now, what do you see the prospect of job about International commercial law in USA for an LLM graduate?

Yeah, it's strong in international law. Regarding your question, there's not much I can tell you about. Just what I know from my friend's experience. He got his LLM at American. While doing his LLM he started working as an intern for an international law firm and then he was hired by that law firm. Apparently it's all about networking and good grades. Since you're from China you should have a good chance because there's a big demand for Chinese lawyers (at least that's what I've heard) and you have experience back in your country. Are you planning to take the NY bar exam?

I'm planning to take the NY bar exam, but it seems that this program is not designed for NY bar. Anyway, I will try and this is a chance to learn about the American Legal System for me.

Even though it's not intended to be a preparation for any bar exam, you can still take the ny bar. You just need to take during you LLM 2 courses in basic American law. That's it. My friend from Chile took the ny bar after completing his LLM at American. And yes, it's a great chance to learn about the American Legal System and about International Law as well. Do you know anybody who's going to attend this program as well?
