Do you people want to specialize truly on maritime or keep more dors open in case you wont find suitable job ?

Thanks

Hello Jimpo, hello everyone,

I guess that only time will tell whether attending a LLM programme in Maritime Law will have been the right decision. Nevertheless, I have the strong notion that most of the people attending a LLM programme in this field already have more or less elaborated plans or even a concrete perspective for the future.

Of course, few and far between you will find some students who just want to spend "another year of fun" before entering the job market, but I think they are rather scarce compared to other, more general programmes.

Regarding the lack of respective job adverts I would refrain from drawing any quick conclusions - the positions to fill might be there though.
In which country do you want to find a job in this field?

Hello Puppy,
well, without more information it will be difficult for the board members to give any opinion, let alone advice.
That said I think that Nottingham certainly is a solid choice.

I have read all of the above posts with interests.

Greece is in fact very strong in the field of shipping but I would not recommend studying in Greece. It is a wonderful country (and I speak from long term experience) BUT considering maritime law around the world is based upon English law you are best off studying in England.

Having done the Maritime LLM at Southampton myself I would strongly recommend it! The professors are wonderful and some of the best regarded academics in the field.

The class consists of people from around the world and it is highly educational to hear about the legal system in different countries. Both the lectures and the seminars are well structured and students are given plenty of individual attention.

I wish you the best of luck wherever you chose to go.

Even though the maritime industry is very strong in Greece, there is no LL.M in Maritime Law here. That's one of the reasons all Greek lawyers interested in this field consider London..
