Oh I see now. That can be the reason why I haven't received the offer yet since I limited my weekly rate.

Haha i guess they do fill up the expensive houses first yes :)

Any news about accommodation? I think they already should have e-mailed us.
Posted Aug 23, 2011 15:54
Hey! I am also facing troubles with accommodation confirmation... I keep trying to chase them by phone, but it is impossible to get through. Does anyone have any news on this? Thanks!
Posted Aug 23, 2011 15:58
The only thing that I've managed to get from them is that they hope that we'll get our offers this week. But they can say for sure... I phoned them last Friday.
What a pain...

Tried to call them a few times today but didnt get through either. Guess i'll wait a few more days, but im keeping my eyes open for alternatives. Renting a room in an apartment nearby seems cheaper anyhow, but you have to be lucky enough to end up with some fun people...
Posted Aug 23, 2011 17:20
Thanks a lot! It seems that it is really high time to look for alternatives. Oh, looking for fun people is even more complicated than chasing ucl)) If you check FB, many people are asking the same question, so at least it does not concern us personally. Hope everything works fine for us. I will let know if manage to reach them somehow or find something new.

That's what they told me a couple of weeks ago about the last week :) It seems that this is a major problem for the UCL administration. About the fun people I completely agree - that might determine your whole stay :)

Congrats on your result. Also still no news from UCL. Do they e-mail you if your accommodation application is not successful? Probably they're really slow having in mind how many people are in the same boat as us.

Indeed. The fact that they are slow to respond does not reduce their housing supply, it just takes a bit longer to send out the offers. I'm not too stressed about not getting an offer to be honest, but it would be nice if they gave us some heads up (or if they would pick up the phone at least ;)

I'm pretty sure that priority is given to International students and EU after that. Have you compared prices of private housing to accommodation coz I think it's pretty much the same. Anyways, I would definitely prefer having something arranged before I arrive and living along other students.

I shouldn't be so certain.
I 1) have never been to England before; 2) not an UK/EU student; 3) submited my application in March and have received nothing at the moment.
They don't even bother to answer my e-mails.

I've received an offer, but only after I sent a few emails to Mr Neil Green. He is out of office right now, however, but Ms Penny Zorbas took charge of following up on my application. I suggest all of you waiting for accommodation try contacting the Residences Office or the International Office to speed things up.

I phoned about a million times now, but still nothing here. I'm flying to London on the 20th (any of you lot attending the International Student Orientation Programme as well?), I'm fortunate enough to stay at a friend's house for the first days.
I have to admit that my earlier optimism on receiving an housing offer has faded somewhat. I've started looking for private housing near UCL (preferably Bloomsbury/Camden), and it seems as if there is quite a lot on offer (although expensive). Most apartments, however, have 3/4 bedrooms and are only for rent as a whole. So i guess it's a good idea to group up with some of the people who are still looking for a place to stay during the first days?

The same thing is with me. I keep calling but the line is always busy. They do not answer my emails, so I think it is the time for allocation of alternatives. I am also arriving on the 20th and probably will be staying in a hotel with aim to settle with accommodation within the first week. Maybe it is really worth to group up to afford living in a flat in Bloomsbury/Camden.

I finally managed to get through by phone this morning. I was told that (regardless of the lack of communication) offers are still being made. As an EU graduate student, i still have an approximately 70% chance of getting an offer, according to the lady from the Residence Office (so i guess that goes for a lot of you guys too). This lady promised me to hurry my file, and that i should expect an update in the coming days (or even today). I will be calling in again tomorrow to keep the pressure on, so all i can say is keep trying.
As for alternatives, those might still be a better option for me if i get an offer for a residence that is too far from UCL. Proximity is my main concern when it comes to housing, as i want to be close to where the action is ;) Don't forget that travelling from your house to uni by tube every day will cost you alot of money as well...

hei,
I'm arriving on 20th as well and am also still waiting for my accommodation reply.
If you two are still looking for housing, perhaps we could really join forces to find a central flat?
If you are interested (respectively are still interested on 20th...so we talk about the case that we don't receive acceptable offers), perhaps you want to add me on facebook? http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1476476487

I've already started looking for an alternative. You can actually find a place cheaper than the accommodation, but you'll need 2-3 flatmates. I don't mind living 2-3 miles away from campus because that will be around 20-30 minutes tube trip and to me having a public transport card is a must.

I went yesterday to the UCL residence office personally and they told me that I will get the offer before this Friday. But they told me the same 2 weeks ago...
But even they are going to offer me the place I would prefer to stay in private accommodation so if anyone is prepared to share 2 or 3 bedroom flat please contact me on my pm
