Frankly, I believe that it is understandable that if a University is rated 54th, you might not be "extremely content" of your choice. The ranking is a summary of the level of a university. It is based on facts. It is one of the best instruments to decide our "seat" in the society. However, there might even be persons that will find interesting some aspects in those universities.

To reply to some previous users.. well, the problem, on my point of view, starts when university ranked low (like City University), start promising jobs and positions to attract students like it happened during the presentations and even during our social meeting with our professors.
This is, to me, is quite serious as it is cheating to students that often don't have previous experiences with an LLM.
For the rest, LLMpedro, you are right, I shouldn't expect too much from a low rated university, but after paying more than 6000 pounds shouldn't I expect a good quality ?
However, the social meeting organised by City were not too bad, but those have little to do with law learning or finding a position.
Finally, as another user mentioned previously, people attending a LLM will mostly do for career. I am just one of the many who didn't find a position after completing the LLM at City (I send lots of CVs each week). If I could go back to my studies I would simply not go for City with all the respect for this university.
Simply that.

It is not possible to get a job as an LLM in London solely.

You need to have experience, be a qualified lawyer in your country and the market must be in demand, which as you know is not.

Law firms dont need to hire LLM's in London. They need English qualified solicitors or English law LLB graduates. They won't hire LLM's. As an LLM it is going to be hard for you to advise on English law with your limited exposure in English law. Even if you graduated lets say from UCL you would not get a job.

Now, don't get me wrong - everybody is entitled their opinion. It is the outright lies of this dissatisfied with his life spammer who is trying to put the blame for all his problems on the University that are so annoying.

First, it is not true that the Uni had promised people jobs - their have been organizing meetings with law firms thus trying to help their students, but no-one nowhere has said that once you complete your course, you would get a job!

Secondly, the internships are not a mere promise, but a fact! I am sorry you had not gone yourself one, WE, perhaps you should have tried best with your studies or at the interviews (IF you have been admitted to them)!

Dear ltalev I respect your opinion and trust your judgement, but I don't understand why you should not believe mine ? What interest do I have to denigrate a university which I have attended?

I am talking about my personal experience, only. Clearly, other people will have different opinions, which I respect.

Jobs were promised during meeting, reassurances that everyone would have got a professional experience at the end of it.

Regarding my interviews, yes, clearly I got some, but most of employee didn't even know what was "City university".

Again this is my experience during interviews. Feel free to believe it or not.

Hey guys, I really dont want to be part of any of these "cheap accusations etc" I just want to give you some info which may be helpful.

Firstly, at City internships were promised and promises were kept. In fact, I got one of these and one year later I still have a job with one of the biggest law firms and trust me they know City University. Moreover, although I believe is common sense I will have to inform you that internships -are in any place of the world- given to the best performances. That is how it works. It may be frustrating but at the same time is fare, dont you think so? Imagine that when you were spending you time looking for "love affairs" other students were studying.

Second, if anyone thinks that having an LLM equals a job then I am very sorry but you dont have connection with the legal world. An LLM is simply a precondition if you even consider to apply for a job in a Law Firm. Without it, unless you are Brit they wont even finish reading your CV.

Third, regarding ranking please is enough. Of course UCL, Kings etc are lovely Universities but if you think that they ensure "jobs"....tell them and they will laugh.

Fourth, finding a job is extremely hard especially if someone considers the legal rescession London is experiencing, so many people no matter the rank of their LLM Uni have lost their jobs because thre was no work.

Hope, I helped.

Hey Guys, let's calm down. Ok, we know that City is not a top choice, but who cares if it's a bad university ? There are plenty of university to choose in UK..

City Law School has now launched a January entry LLM. This is a 'Hammock LLM': That is students first take two courses in the January to April term. Then in the summer term they take the 20,000 word dissertation, and then in the following autumn term they take two more courses, graduating the following January.

Our final closing date for applications for the January entry date is Monday 18th January 2010. Term begins on Monday 25th January. We advise all intending students to apply as early as possible for the January LLM entry.

I think you'll find that the information was unbiased and that the poster made no secret of his identity. That is precisely the sort of information that should be welcomed on this forum. No student is prevented from adding their opinion on the post, or ignoring it if they prefer. Attacking the poster is meaningless.

As someone who works in an educational establishment occasionally featuring here, I can see that among all the authentic student posts, there is also a small amount of active and intentional desinformation. For instance, Sorensen, you claim in another post to be a student at Southampton, but the further information in your post shows this to be untrue.

Anonymity is the beauty of the Net and your privilege, but don't abuse it and don't attack people who speak openly and honestly.
