QM or UCL?

Dafne

HI, everyone.

I have been accepted to LLM in Business law both to UCL & QUEEN MARY.

Any suggestions on which one would be the right choice?

Thank you.

I think you'd be better off at UCL. Like I said in other posts, QML is a great university, but in my opinion it is the lowest brand from the University of London (I'm not considering other colleges of the university, I'm referring only to UCL, LSE, KCL and QML).

UCL, unless the specialization that you are looking for is only offered by QMUL.

These answers are not satisfactory. Why choose UCL over Queen Mary? It is true that the UCL brand is stronger than QMUL both in terms of the individual subject of law and of the reputation of the university as a whole. However to properly answer your question further information is required - what area exactly of business law are you interested in? As I have already mentioned elsewhere Queen Mary is especially strong in commercial arbitration, tax, finance and IP. Further the Centre for Competition law at QMUL is emerging as an area of excellence. I would, if you are seriously interested in the subject rather than just obtaining the qualification for career purposes, choose QMUL over UCL in the following areas: IP, tax and arbitration where QMUL is the established leader of the field.

Thank you for your insights.
I'm indeed interested in these areas.

Can you please tell me what are the strengths of UCL?

thanks

UCL is really strong in finance/banking/regulation, human rights, competition law, environmental law and dispute resolution. I am not sure about the rest... I may be ruling out subjects of law but my entire research was finance oriented... - I did an LLM at UCL in 2007/2008 in banking and financial regulation.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

I would like to ask whether anyone can explain what makes IP programme at QM so special and what is the difference between IP at QM and IP at UCL (except for tuition fees:-))

Many thanks,

L.
