Hey guys,

I am not doing the LLM at QM, but I'm in my final year undergrad LLB, so thought I'd give you a look at QM from someone who is there.

The postgrad campus teaching are (Lincoln's Inn) is really close..just a couple tube stops away from Mile End.

Accommodation: As far as I am aware there isn't that much accommodation available for postgrads on the Mile End campus, but it is really easy to find affordable places to live all around the campus! :)

Any questions that I can answer (don't forget I'm not doing the LLM) I'd be happy to answer :)

Hi Urvashi,

If you still can't find the group, add me on facebook - Shibumi Raje.
I guess around August end will be the right time to go... I don't know about accommodation etc., I think Lucy can help us with that!

I beg to disagree a bit...There are plenty of accomodation within the Mile End campus for postgraduates. Infact there are some which are only meant for LLM students or other postgrad students. My friend has been staying in maurice court and most of his batchmates in stocks court and few more whom i know in the houses beside the canal.

Most of the classes take place in Lincoln's Inn fields, however not all. If size of the class is huge then that takes place either at IALS at russel square(which is like 10-12 mins walk from lincoln's inn) or at charterhouse sq. campus at barbican(usually commercial, arbitration, finance classes). So LLM students can even opt for the accomodation at dawson hall in charterhouse sq. but those are I guess mostly dominated by medical students of barts.
As a place Mile End is ok for students as essential items and all are relatively cheaper than central london but it is not that a great place and lacks the charm of bloomsbury. The rooms arent that very big, my friend says, on webpage it looks like one but isn't so exactly however are quite decent.

Lincoln's Inn fields is near holborn tube stn which is like 6 stops from mile end on the central line and it will cost you 1.90(off-peak) and 2.40 or something (peak hours) as mile end falls in zone 2. No clue about bus route.

Thanks Reet! that was very helpful!

Do you have any idea where the IP classes are taking place?

I still have a hard time making a decision...
Do you know how much is a cheap flat share in bloomsbury ( approximately)? we would probably have a hard time finding one in September, right?

Can I ask where are you staying?

IP classes usually take place in IALS at Russel Sq. and/or in Lincoln's Inn Fields.

I'm not very sure whether you'll manage to get a flat in bloomsbury as mostly are student residence halls managed by the university or ucl. Even if you do it will be very expensive and most probably starting from 650 pounds per month and above. mind you food, municipality council tax and other taxes, internet, sky tv license(if you wish to hv a tv) will be additional expenses. It won't be that hard to find an apartment in september however you'll need some time in hand (say around 2 weeks or so depending upon your preference,flatmates,owner,money/deposit and luck) to find a decent one. Camden has quite a lot of flats, but you have to check out. these are some sites where you can have a peek though they aren't great:
1) www.gumtree.com
2) london.craiglist.co.uk/vac

there are plenty more available..just browse.

I stay in an UoL Intercollegiate hall.

Well, I think I made up my mind.
Since I'm aiming for IP law and the classes are taking place in Bloomsbury, I think I'll find a flat share somewhere is ZONE 1 instead of staying in the Mile End student accommodation (which is ZONE 2).

Who's with me?

And- what about our FACEBOOK group? nothing is going on there!

I heard that It's about 30 minutes bus ride from Mile end to Bloomsbury. I don't know if I am up for it. and usually the accommodation in campus is filled with very young and noisy undergraduates.

I guess It all depends on how many classes will we have to take in Bloomsbury. Does anyone know?

Lee virtually all uni's have postgrad-only accommodation blocks. You won't have to live with noisy undergrads. I visited QM's Mile End Rd library a few times and their campus is very nice. If I had the choice I'd go for that instead of looking for private accommodation in zone 1. Most students use the tube too (not buses).

i 'l have to agree with pluto. there are many advantages of staying at the mile end campus. i am expecting a lot of interaction with many different people at the campus accomodation. moreover the whole experience would be different while staying there. i went through the accomodation website and i am very satisfied with the facilities. so the campus accomodation is a big plus for me.

Can someone post the link to the accommodation website?
I was wondering what's the policy about people coming to visit and stay a few nights ( in case one of my friends or family arrives from home).

AND- whats the last date I can apply for a room?

I saw some YOUTUBE videos about the rooms and facilities, still not sure whether I should travel daily from Zone 2 to Zone 1 and back.
