Please, could you give us some information about the level of your flatmate?, I think we all want to have an idea of the requirements...
Usually, a University use phone calls to disclose admission results only in case of emergency because of the high possibility of mistakes and misunderstanding... It happened for me last year, but I asked for it...

I spoke to Kate Blanshard, the course administrator this morning and was told that decisions have been made, and offer letters are in the process of being sent out via email. Kate said that applicants will definitely hear before this Friday.
I wonder what the deal was with the phone offers ... I didn't get a chance to ask her this
All the best,
Mack

I received a waiting list reply. Any idea the number of students who have received a waiting list reply? Is there any way one can find out his/her number in the wait list?
What is the Oxford BCL waiting list precedent?

i have been placed on the waiting list as well. am really curious to know how exactly does this work, how big is the waitlist pool (predicted from previous BCL benchmarks perhaps), and the basic question of all - what really are the chances!!! anyone knows anyone who got thru ox in a previous year and picked up from the waitlist pool???

Hello,
While by no means do I want to be perceived as being unsympathetic to your plight (I wish everyone the best of luck!), I feel the need to point out that the information being requested will invariably be of poor predictive value. First, your "chances" of getting in off the waiting list (and I put chances in quotes because this isn't a random process) are obviously determined at first instance by your specific ranking on the wait list. Since I don't believe this information is available at the moment, the average take-up rates of something like the BCL (which, if you look through the literature, are extremely volatile year-over-year) are going to be of limited value with reference to your particular case.
Again, best of luck to all!!
Paddy

thanks paddy, and agreed - actually i was trying to figure out how oxford works with waitlists... any constructive information on how oxford has traditionally dealt with waitlist cases would be useful... thanks

If there are a total of 30 seats, my guess is that not more than 15 seats will be offered in the wait list (50% is quite a number). Let me know if this is a "fair" estimate. Of the commentators at the forum, i see atleast 3 wait listed candidates. Has anybody ask the MLF guys?
Posted Mar 18, 2010 17:21
You may also wish to consider whether or not the Faculty only made 30 offers at first instance. Indeed, I believe it is standard practice to make more offers initially than there are places on the basis that, regardless of the quality of the program, there will be a certain number of rejections. This would obviously have an impact on the prospects of wait-listed applicants.
Once again, though, it is something of a emotional and cognitive trap to think that obtaining further information about the mechanics of the wait-list will render one's chances any more predictable (or, perhaps more to the point, ameliorate one's anxiety). Put simply, it's a waste of energy worrying about it.
Cheers,
Paddy

then why have wait-listed category in the first place? hanging like jack-o-lanterns neither here nor there... dsnt make sense... but sorry paddy buddy, call it a fool's draught, but anything to ameliorate anxiety - hope that clarifies..
