Oxford BCL prospect - High ranking with no first class?

Maluy

Hello, I am currently in my JD program with a high 2:1 GPA, (0.5 points away from first class honours). I rank the 3rd in my year. So I was wondering what's my prospect of getting into Oxford BCL given my grades and ranking? I also achieved first class honours in my undergraduate non-law degree.

Thank you!

Hello Maluy,

I took the BCL last year.

I did not have a first class law degree but I did graduate top of my class.

Although most of the BCL class were first class degree holders, not everyone had a first. Other indications like class rank may be considered in the absence of first.

The written essay in the application is very important and may complement the lack of a first. These are my thoughts, I do not (of course) seat on the admissions committee.

I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for the reply! May I know is it possible to apply twice if the first time was unsuccessful? Would the first failed application diminishes my chance of success on my second application?

Thank you

Yes, you can apply as many times as you like and your previous apps are not taken into consideration
