Oxford BCL/MJur and Cambridge LLM Applicants 2010/2011

hi, it's really very difficult to defer- usually they only allow you to if you have medical reasons to do so. If i were you I would reply to the offer email and ask, or email Ed Peel directly. You will need permission both from the faculty and your college. Otherwise you will need to apply again next year. Hope this was a bit helpful!

Hi guys...i have got through oxford BCL..but may not be able to go for it this year...will be really grateful if someone could throw light on how deferring of the admissions work..do i accept now and then defer...if they accept my request..is my admission guaranteed next year...do i need to go through the entire process of applications..

would really appreciate..if someone who had got admissions deferred from last yr and is joining this year could reply..

generally too..if guys have any idea..please reply..thanks a ton!!!

Hey

I deferred from last year but as Sedman says they don't usually let you unless you've got a rock solid reason - I was told that generally you have to reapply. The person I spoke to was Geraldine Malloy who forwarded on my request to the head of the faculty, who approved it and my college had to approve it too. I also had to produce evidence that I could meet the funding requirements so you need to be able to provide that this year even if you're not coming till next year. Hope that helps a bit.

So, I guess no one has heard anything from Oxford? It's driving me crazy. I haven't received anything, neither email nor letter. It's so frustrating....

Why don't you email and ask? or ring them? You are perfectly within your rights to do so at this late stage.

Hey littledoll,
as far as I know, most people heard from Oxford last week. Just read the previous posts. Personally, I know that two fellow students from my university received their feedback on March 18 via email (1offer, 1 rejection). Therefore, I suppose something might have gone wrong with your application and I would suggest you call the admissions office.

OK, I've got into both the BCL and the LLM. I have a scholarship for cambridge not for oxford and want to be a barrister. is the bcl really so much better that i should turn down the scholarship? i went to an ex-poly and want to get this decision right so as to maximise cv benefit.

i know this has been touched on before, but any new opinions would be much appreciated.

Thanks Shreya..best of luck for the interview....slightly sad that I wasn't even shortlisted..
Also the clarendon results are out. The clarendon website states:
**Update** 31 March 2010, 10.00 BST: 20 scholarships have been offered on 30 March or by 10.00BST on 31 March. All 20 candidates have been sent a funding offer letter from Graduate Admissions & Funding. The total number of scholarships offered by Social Sciences is currently 26, which includes 6 scholarships from the first selection meeting on 4 March.

A very small number of Clarendon Scholarships in Social Sciences are still pending in the following departments only: Archaeology, Anthropology, and the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies. These scholarships will be made on or after 8 April 2010. If you applied to a different department in Social Sciences and you did not receive a scholarship offer by 31 March, then your application to the Clarendon Fund was unsuccessful.

I was really worried because I haven't heard from Oxford at all. No letter, no email.... So I wrote them an email today and it turned out that I should have received an offer email on March 18, but I have never received it. So apparently something went wrong.
Now the tough decision begins... Cambridge or Oxford.....

Hi guys,

Check out the group 'Admitted to Cambridge 2010/2011' if you have also applied. Apparently people are starting to receive letters, though some of us are still waiting... It'd be nice to have more people sharing experiences.
