Oxford BA Jurisprudence or Cam BA Law?

gregjames

Hey everyone, I'm an Australian applying for Undergraduate Law in UK for 2009. Right now im contemplating between Oxford and Cam law since I only can put down one of the two in my prefs.

I know both degrees are excellent and definitely world reputed, but I would appreciate it if some of the more experience folk here could highlight to me the specific strengths and weaknesses of each course, in particular

i) Postgraduate studies: I am planning of doing a LLM in a U.S university, but I have read several complaints of how the BA Jurisprudence was not awarded the same recognition as the LLB when applying for courses such as the Harvard LLM, can anyone validate this for me and tell me if it applies to Cambridge as well?

ii) I'm more interested in Corporate and civil law, and from what Ive heard so far the BA Law from cambridge opens more doors for this type of employment than the BA in Jurisprudence, is this true?

Many Thanks
Greg

Hi Greg, Both Oxford and Cambridge offer excellent programmes. It depends on what you want from the course. Law firms recruit heavily from Oxford and Cambridge, and a first-class degree from either should ensure keen interest in you. BA Law and LLB are exactly the same thing: and there are plenty of Oxonians who go on to study at Harvard. So, don't worry about that.
Anyway, the BCL is well known as the most prestigious postgraduate law course: plenty of senior judges from all Commonwealth country have taken a BCL degree.
